Guardian Angels' Update - Term 3 | Week 2
Term 3 | Week 2 - School News
When looking at the term ahead and planning upcoming events, the importance of the role of the P&F really shines through. Many of the activities that make our school a great community to be a part of are because of the effort and commitment of your P&F. They are a very active group within our school, who work together to discuss topics that support the needs of our families, teaching and learning, and school development.
While it may be difficult for some parents to attend meetings, there are many opportunities for you to become involved. I encourage everyone to seek out these opportunities to assist, even in the smallest way.
Your P&F met on Tuesday evening, and I know that they will be seeking volunteers to assist with our upcoming ‘Colour Fun Run’ and ‘Angels on the Oval’ events. Please keep an eye out for the call for volunteers, as any support you can offer will be appreciated, and you will have a great a time participating.
The P&F works closely together as a team and is a wonderful way for families to connect and feel a sense of belonging to our school. They work to organise many functions and activities that are aimed at enhancing the wonderful sense of school community that exists within the school.
The work of our parents in our school community is invaluable. I extend an invitation to all parents to become involved in your P&F. For it is through this great work of our volunteers and other parent participation, that we are able to hold events that contribute to making our school a great community to be a part of.
I look forward to working together in the months ahead.

Grandparents Day - change of date
Due to a clash with the early years swimming program in Term 4, we have had to change the date for our Grandparents Day next term.
Grandparents Day will now be on Friday 7 October (Week 1 | Term 4). We will provide the schedule closer to the date, however the morning will start with a Liturgy at approximately 8:45am with classroom activities/visits and morning tea to follow.
Catholic Education Week
Catholic Education Week will be celebrated in Catholic schools in Queensland from 24 – 30 July 2022.
This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is: Communities of Faith, Hope and Love.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
There are 313 Catholic schools in Queensland that educate around 154,000 students and employ more than 22,000 teachers and staff, and most will celebrate Catholic Education Week in some way.
Our school will be coming together twice next week to celebrate this important event. Year 1 Yellow will lead us in a special Catholic Education Week assembly on Wednesday 27 July at our normal school assembly and then on Thursday 28 July from 1:45pm we will be celebrating a Liturgy of the Word that will be led by Father Thomas and Year 2 Blue. We would love for you to join us for either of these special occasions. The students will also complete some activities and discuss the importance of Catholic Education Week in class.
Guardian Angels' Colour Run
Fundraising for Guardian Angels' Colour Run on 26 August is officially underway! Letters were sent home on 13 July and students should by now have brought home sponsorship information. This year we are really hoping to raise $30,000 to support playground rejuvenation at Guardian Angels’, so, we would love all families to participate by simply creating a profile at schoolfunrun.com.au and sharing with family and friends.
By creating your online profile you’ll be able to access online fundraising and be in the chance to win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package. For raising just $10 students will also get to pick a prize! Remember, the class with the most sign ups by 25 July will win an icey pole class treat. Happy Fundraising! https://youtu.be/cFKqHWKeDO8
Volunteers will be required on the day, please express your support to P&F email – pwynnumpandf@bne.catholic.edu.au
Sport Aerobics Performance
Please join us after drop off on Wednesday 3 August for an exciting performance opportunity by the Guardian Angels’ Sports Aerobics teams. Led by one of the Industrie1 coaches, each of our teams will perform their routines in front of the whole school at a special assembly in the MC Shed. This will be after the teams have performed at the State competition so their results and achievements at all competitions will also be announced.
Wednesday 3 August - 8:45am – MC Shed – all welcome

Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
Thank you to those parents who have already so generously volunteered their time in the pick up zones. We truly appreciate your help.
We would love parent helpers at both campuses in Term 3. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. The training can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx
You will need to download, print and complete your registration form, which is contained within your online training. Return it to the School Office prior to commencing your role.
Second-hand Uniform Shop
The second hand uniform shop is open on the first Monday of the month with the next open day on Monday 1 August.
The shop will open between 7:30am and 8:10am on the GA campus. Each item is $5. Cash only sales.
A friendly reminder regarding the process for purchasing from the second hand shop:
- only parent volunteers, managing the second hand sales, are allowed in the storeroom
- second hand items are washed and bagged according to size so that finding stock is quick and easy
- due to the demand in short opening hours please take the item as given to you by our parent volunteers. It is not possible to sift through stock; if it is unsuitable it can be returned to the Mount Carmel School Office for a refund or exchange
- the shop has a small float on the day but the exact change is appreciated.
Demand for second hand uniform items is usually high so our parent volunteers truly appreciate your kindness and patience as they help as many parents as possible when the shop is open.
Need items outside of shop open times? Please email pwynnum@bne.catholic.edu.au with what you need and one of our amazing parent volunteers will fill this order for you.

COVID-19 Update (19 July 2022): Wearing of Face Masks
Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) and Guardian Angels’ School supports the Queensland Government and the Queensland Premier’s recommendation that face masks should be worn indoors where possible, and where social distancing is not possible.
However, the decision to wear a face mask should remain a personal one. This means that while it is encouraged, your children, our staff, and visitors to our school can choose to wear a face mask - it is not compulsory.
Please note that primary school children have never been required to wear a mask when at school. As with the above scenarios it is completely up to you as parents as to whether you would like your primary school student to wear a mask.
A reminder about other face mask requirements
I would also take this opportunity to remind our school community that the requirements to wear a face mask for 7 days after having COVID-19, or when a close contact are still in place, as well as ongoing public health requirements to wear a face mask when travelling on public transport (including in taxis and ride-shares).
Thank you for your ongoing support and contact me at school should you have any queries.
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild. If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in these challenging times.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY will move to the 5:00pm Sunday evening Mass (2nd and 4th Sundays of the month) - starting this Sunday!
Now that the Sunday evening Mass is a little earlier, it will suit families a bit better.
At the beginning of Mass, children aged Prep to Year 4 will be sent across to the Hall with our Safeguarding-approved catechists to break open the Gospel reading at their level, and then return to join the congregation as we begin the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
All families welcome. Make sure to let others know too.
