    From the Principal

“God couldn’t be everywhere, so he created mothers!”

With these words in mind, we prepare to celebrate Mother’s Day at Guardian Angels’ School.

Mothers’ Day, celebrated in May, coincides with a month that is dedicated to honouring Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary is an example of strength for each of us and a true model of discipleship. She saw her role as mother to Jesus as a vocation from God. She was with Jesus throughout His life; from His birth, throughout His childhood, beside Him during his ministry, by His side when He was crucified and with the disciples at Pentecost. She truly is ‘blessed among women’.

Like Mary, the mother figures in our lives are models for us of great love, gentleness, patience, strength and kindness. This Sunday, we will each take the time to celebrate the gift of our mothers. We pray for all our mothers and special women who make such a difference to our lives:

Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and
tender, and that they may lead their children to know and
do what is good, living not for themselves alone but for God and for others. Amen

I invite all our families to share in the beautiful Mother’s Day Activities tomorrow (09/05) with one of these a Liturgy of the Word prepared for our community.  As you share in this as a family, it is an opportunity to give thanks and to remember that our mothers and other special people, nurture our love of God by the example they provide for their children.

We are truly thankful for the rich contribution that mothers and other special people make to our school community. May we as a school, parish and as individuals continue to serve God as Mary did - with trust in Him, confidence, obedience and love.

    Happy Mother’s Day!

Tell Them From Me: Parent Survey

    Dear Parents and Carers

We are inviting students, teachers, and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.

We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them from Me® (TTFM®) Partners in Learning survey.  As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing at Guardian Angels’ School.

The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.

The survey is open until Friday 30 May 2025.

Please contact the school via pwynnum@bne.catholic.edu.au if you have any queries.

You can access your survey on your computer or mobile device by using this URL below:

    From the Assistant Principal Administration

    Good afternoon lovely families,

    CAR PARKING
It has come to our attention that some parents/carers are not parking appropriately in areas around the parish and school. This is a matter of both safety and consideration for others.

Please use all parking areas appropriately and please do not park outside of the designated line-marked parking spots. This is especially important in the parish carparks including the church car park on Pine Street and behind the MC Admin block on Chestnut Street.

    CHESTNUT STREET PARKING (MC CAMPUS)
The parish car park located behind the MC Admin building (entry Chestnut Street) has been graciously provided by the parish to the school to assist with parking spaces. If you utilise this parking area, please park only along the wooden fence side of the car park. The car parking spaces that run adjacent to the building are to be left free for the convenience of parishioners please.

I appreciate your support with these parking considerations as we are always working both for the safety of our beloved students and in respectful partnership with our parish friends.

    DANCE SUPERSTARS (Prep-Year 2)
Don’t forget to pop this very important date into your diaries … Friday 20 June @ 2:15pm. Our littlest angels in Prep – Year 2 started their dance lessons last week. On Friday 20 June we will enjoy the Superstars Dance Extravaganza (that’s what I call it). This is one of my most favourite days of the whole year … Hopefully you will be able to join us on June 20 in the Shed to witness our little dancing kings and queens.

Please note the starting time of this event (2:15pm). This time allows the concert to finish just before 3:00pm. It is an expectation and requirement that all students will return to their classrooms with their class teachers at the conclusion of the concert. This is an important safety measure and will allow the classes to finish their days with the usual end of day procedures. We ask that only those families who are taking their child out for appointments only to sign students out through the office.

    LIFE EDUCATION
We are so excited to welcome our friends from Life Education back to Guardian Angels from Thursday 5 June. They will be here with us until Friday 13 June. Throughout this time, each class will enjoy one lesson with the Life Education team.

Life Education has been working with Queensland students for over 30 years; empowering our wonderful children with knowledge and skills that encourage healthy, safe lives.

In the world around us, these life skills are as important as ever. Through the Life Education programs, the students learn about key influences on health and wellbeing, including nutrition, cyber safety, bullying, substance abuse and use, emotional health and relationships. This is done in an informative, age appropriate and entertaining manner .. and the students really love to ‘chat’ with Harold the Healthy Giraffe.

Unfortunately the Life Education van will not be on site this year. The students will enjoy their visits with Healthy Harold in a classroom space.

Our beautiful teachers are currently selecting the modules that will support the curriculum for their year levels. I will be able to provide you with a snapshot of the Life Education program content for each year level in 2025 in the next full newsletter.

    SCHOOL PHOTOS
Our official school photos day is scheduled for Wednesday 28 May.  School photos will be taken on one day only. I just want to let you all know as I know that some people make appointment plans around the photo day.

There will not be any catchup photo days at school so it would be wonderful to have as many of our beautiful students here as possible.

It is an expectation that all students wear their FULL FORMAL SCHOOL UNIFORM for School Photo day. Of course this includes correct hair ties, shoes and socks. Our Prep students will wear their sports uniform as usual.

I will provide ordering details in designated email communication next week.

Blessings to you all for the coming weeks

From the Assistant Principal Religious Education

    Dear Families

Peace and Welcome to Week 3 of Term 2.

It’s here! May - The Month of Mary.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, commonly referred to as Mary, Mother of God, Saint Mary, Virgin Mary and Blessed Virgin Mary, is one of the most admired figures in Scripture and considered by many to be the greatest of all Christian saints. She was a willing servant who trusted God and obeyed His call. While her life held great honour, her calling also required great suffering. Though there was joy in motherhood, there was great pain in the privilege of being the mother of the Messiah. Despite these things, she responded to God with great obedience and submission to His plan. Her life never robbed Jesus of His glory, for her mission was to witness the glory of the Son of God.

Mary loved God and wanted to serve Him with all her heart. She was a poor girl in an insignificant town, from a humble family, with little expectations that her life was going to be any different than most. When the angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her she was chosen and favoured by God to be the mother of His son, despite her own fear, she exhibited great courage and character: “I am the Lord’s servant…May your word to me be fulfilled” (Luke 1:38).

She also exhibited great courage and character during Jesus’ life and ministry. She pressed Jesus to provide wine when it ran low at the wedding in Cana, she approached Jesus when He was left behind at the temple and she witnessed and attempted to protect Jesus in some of the most difficult of situations. She was a person of discipleship and faith, and the first true follower of Jesus.

    Why do we honour Mary?

We honour Mary because she is Mother - Your mother, my mother, everyone’s mother – and because she cares for all of us day-in-and-day-out without fail, interceding for us in even the tiniest matters.

    Mother’s Day

This Sunday, 11th May is Mother's Day. This is a day to enjoy spending time with our Mums, respecting their commitment, recognising their effort and hard work and showing that we understand the important and significant role they play in our lives.

On Mother’s Day, we remember and thank with gratitude and love. We thank God for the gift of our mothers who care for us, protect us, teach us and love us. Many of our mothers passed on the precious gift of faith to us. We remember all our mothers and grandmothers and thank them for their generosity and self-giving love.

    Mother’s Day Prayer

    Lord

    We pray for all MOTHERS.

Beautiful and wonderful they fill the Earth.

Gracious in Your call they carry life,

In a bond of life they bring forth a child.

We ask you to bless all MOTHERS today.

May they feel the joys of motherhood every day.

In all their struggles and giving us a loving life,

may Your love and compassion always be with them.

    May every MOTHER feel today,

The pride and beauty of a family they bear,

through all pain and sorrow, Lord

deliver them in your Strength and grace,

May You always be by their side in love

    AMEN

    From the Primary Learning Leader

This week our teachers came together in year level teams to plan collaboratively for their learners.  This occurs at the juncture points of weeks 3,6 and 9, every term.  This allows teachers to plan for effective learning experiences for each of our learners.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, Guardian Angels’ School will be participating in the National Simultaneous Story Time event on the 21st May at 12pm.

Guardian Angels has been registered for The National Simultaneous Story Time Event on 21st May at 12pm.  Students will participate in a range of activities focused on the book.

The book that has been selected this year is called The Truck Cat. With illustrations by multi-award-winning artist Danny Snell and words by acclaimed new writer Deborah Frenkel, The Truck Cat is the perfect book to inspire kindness and compassion in young children everywhere.

We will look forward to sharing this wonderful story as a school community

    ICAS Assessments

Information regarding ICAS Assessments will be communicated via email in the coming weeks.  Please keep an eye out for this, if you are interested in entering your child in some or all of these Assessments.

Happy Mothers’ Day to all our wonderful GA Mums for this Sunday.  I hope your day is filled with the love of your family and friends.

    Volunteering at Guardian Angels

Volunteers are very welcome at Guardian Angels’ and play an important role in enriching students’ experiences.
When parents and community members can get involved in activities like reading, excursions, P&F and events, it fosters a sense of connection and support.

Before commencing as a volunteer, you are required to complete online volunteer training at the start of each calendar year.  This takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.  This training ensures that all our adults who come into contact with our students will be fully informed of their roles and responsibilities when working with students.

    Please follow the steps below:

    1. Click this link to complete online Student Protection Training Start training here
    2. Complete the ‘Volunteer Registration and Declaration Form’ (this can be accessed at the end of the online training)
    3. Print and complete the ‘Volunteer Registration and Declaration Form’ and email to pwynnum@bne.catholic.edu.au
    4. You will receive acknowledgement of your completed training and volunteer number for 2025.
