Term 3 | Week 6 - School News

There is much excitement amongst students (and staff!) ahead of Sunday's Angels on the Oval. It will be wonderful, after such a long period of events on pause due to health mandates, to welcome our community into the school for this family friendly event.
Guardian Angels' is blessed with a very active P&F who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring together a variety of market stallholders, food trucks, kids activities, live musicians and contacting local community businesses for donations.
The P&F are raffling wonderful prizes, kindly donated by local bayside businesses. You can purchase raffle tickets online here: https://www.raffletix.com.au/?ref=drek9
We are also very lucky to have a willing and able parent community who are happy to jump in and lend a hand when needed with a number of the jobs for Sunday's event already allocated. There are a few jobs remaining so if you are coming along and are able to assist I encourage you to see where you can help: https://volunteersignup.org/WJ8QX
Bring picnic rugs and chairs, sit back, relax and enjoy the live music on the oval! I look forward to seeing you there.
Blessings for the week ahead

Review and revision of medical procedures
We have recently reviewed and revised our procedures around medication storage to ensure students receive the best possible care.
All medications will now be safely stored in Sick Bay, on the relevant campus. Students are NOT to keep ANY medication in their school bags, or in the classroom.
This provides every child access to a First Aid room staffed by trained First Aiders, with Medical Action plans easily accessible, and easy access for emergency services should they be required. Any treatment is then correctly documented, and signed for by two staff, as per BCE protocols.
For excursions, or any off-site events, the classroom teacher or supervising teacher will ensure that all relevant medications are taken to the event on behalf of the child. Both First Aid Rooms have an additional supply of asthma relievers and spacers, antihistamines and Epipens in the event of an emergency.
We know that by making these changes, we can provide the highest level of care to your child, when they need us the most.

Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild. If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in these challenging times.
The Assumption of Mary

On Monday 15 August, the Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. This feast day celebrates the Christian belief that God assumed the Virgin Mary into heaven. Thus, it was solemnly proclaimed that the belief whereby the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken up, body and soul, into the glory of heaven, definitely forms part of the deposit of faith, received from the Apostles. This day is also known as the Dormition of the Mother of God or the Feast of the Assumption.
We thank Mrs Gear and Year 4 Blue for sharing a beautiful assembly with us yesterday, where they shared this important message about the Assumption of Mary.
God of love,
Inspired by Mary’s example may we live as your faithful and trusting disciples.
We pray for the strength and courage we need to be hope-filled and generous people, knowing that you are with us on our journey.
We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ, your Son.
Amen.
Bayside Athletics Carnival
Last week 45 students travelled to Mary MacKillop School, Birkdale to take part in the Bayside Catholic Schools Athletics Carnival. Students from across Years 3–6 participated in sprint races, middle distance races, long jump, shot put and sprint relays. All the students involved represented the school in an excellent manner, striving for their personal best in each of their events. Well done Team GA!

Sports Aerobics Success!

Drop off and pick up zone volunteers

Thank you to those parents who have already so generously volunteered their time in the pick up zones. We truly appreciate your help.
We would love parent helpers at both campuses in Term 3. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. The training can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx
You will need to download, print and complete your registration form, which is contained within your online training. Return it to the School Office prior to commencing your role.
Second-hand Uniform Shop
The second hand uniform shop is open on the first Monday of the month with the next open day on Monday 5 September.
The shop will open between 7:45am and 8:20am on the GA campus. Each item is $5. Cash only sales.
A friendly reminder regarding the process for purchasing from the second hand shop:
- only parent volunteers, managing the second hand sales, are allowed in the storeroom
- second hand items are washed and bagged according to size so that finding stock is quick and easy
- due to the demand in short opening hours please take the item as given to you by our parent volunteers. It is not possible to sift through stock; if it is unsuitable it can be returned to the Mount Carmel School Office for a refund or exchange
- the shop has a small float on the day but the exact change is appreciated.
Demand for second hand uniform items is usually high so our parent volunteers truly appreciate your kindness and patience as they help as many parents as possible when the shop is open.
Need items outside of shop open times? Please email pwynnum@bne.catholic.edu.au with what you need and one of our amazing parent volunteers will fill this order for you.
