Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
Thank you to those parents who have already so generously volunteered their time in the pick up zones. We truly appreciate your help.
We would love parent helpers at both campuses from Term 2. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. The training can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx
You will need to download, print and complete your registration form, which is contained within your online training. Return it to the School Office prior to commencing your role.
COVID-19
We continue to have positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community this week. These cases are currently isolating as required by Queensland Health and we wish them well as they recover.
A reminder to keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild. If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in these challenging times.

From the Parish
Change to Sunday Evening Mass Time
Starting next Sunday, 15 May, the Sunday evening Mass will now be celebrated at 5:00pm (and not at 6:00pm).
After consultation with our evening Mass-goers (both Saturday and Sunday evenings), as well as families in the parish school, the Parish Pastoral Council agreed to trial having the Sunday evening Mass at 5:00pm with a review of the decision in November.
The main rationale for the decision was to try and make one of our evening Masses more accessible to families with young children who generally go to bed before 7:00pm. (Our 6:00pm Masses would be out of reach for them). With changes in our society and children’s sport now filling Sunday mornings, it has become more difficult for young families to attend Mass. Our parish wants to make Mass as accessible as possible for everyone - especially young families, who we should be reaching out to.
We hope that our Sunday evening Mass-goers will appreciate the rationale behind the decision as we seek to fulfil our Parish Vision of being a “welcoming, vibrant, inclusive, loving and outreaching community”. There is an information sheet available at the back of Guardian Angels' Church this weekend that outlines some of the considerations and the results of the consultations and surveys that led to the decision if you would like to take a deeper look. Let us continue now making the message of the Gospel and the sacraments of Our Lord as accessible as possible to all.
Thank you very much for your understanding.
From the Community
From St James College, Spring Hill
Dear Guardian Angels’ Community
Members of your community are invited to join us at the upcoming St James College, Spring Hill OPEN DAY on Friday 13 May from 10.00am till 1.00pm
On this day we are welcoming prospective students and their families, education providers, and partners of the college to experience life at St James College.
There will be performances by the cultural dance troupe, STEM and health support demonstrations, and a live cooking show. Students will be able to sit in the student-built race car and see (and hear!) a rocket launch. Hospitality students will prepare a delicious morning tea.
Special Cultural Night Performance Rehearsal
Each year, international music, dance and culture of the world comes to live at the annual Cultural Night.
Consider bringing your students to an arts excursion to see the Cultural Night Performance rehearsals taking place throughout the day.
If you are unable to attend the Open Day, I invite you to learn more about the college below where I’ve outlined ‘15 Things You May Not Know About St James’.
The St James College difference is that students are encouraged to develop confidence in independent learning by delivering a unique curriculum which blends academic, practical and employability skills so they can gain part-time work early, and more easily transition to tertiary study and the workforce.
Due to the multicultural, multifaith, multiskilled and multisuccess learning culture at St James College, our students graduate with a heart for humankind, for their work and global peace and harmony for our planet.
