Term 1 | Week 4 - School News
From the Library
As mentioned in last week's newsletter the library have brand new readers, generously purchased by our P&F, that need to be covered in contact.
Thank you to the parents who have already volunteered to help. There are still a number of readers that need to be covered. If you have time to take home some books and contact to cover the readers this will help us get these wonderful resources into the classroom quickly. Contact provided and will be pre-cut for each reader.
Please contact Kim Nearhos in the Library if you are able to assist: pwynnum@bne.catholic.edu.au
Spotlight on Learning
Year 1 - Humanities and Social Sciences
In their HASS unit, Year 1's explored similarities and differences in their families. Students made paper links to represent each person in their family then looked for friends whose families were similar or different to their own.
Year 5/6 - What do you know about angles?
The challenge was set: if you know a full revolution has 360 degrees and a straight line has 180 degrees, can you work out all the angles in this shape? Year 5/6 students worked collaboratively to solve the problem and enjoyed the challenge. No protractors needed!
Prep
Preps are very busy learning: Students engaged in different forms of learning to become more familiar with the letter M and the sound that it makes. They have also been reading and writing about The Very Hungry Bear. Look at how clever they are!
Introducing...Bounce Back Bear!
Year 1 love their weekly visit from 'BBB' who delivers a special message to the class from his handy backpack. Bounce Back Bear has talked about topics like being thankful, how to be a good friend, how to cope with a range of feelings and that it's okay to make a mistake. We can't wait to find out what will be in BBB's backpack next week!
Kon'nichiwa!
Hello! Konnichiwa! I am Karen Druve and I am very pleased to be teaching your child Japanese in 2023! I love Japan: the country, people and the language! I feel lucky to be able to share this love with students at Guardian Angels’.
We have had a busy start to the year in Japanese class. We have been learning all about the history of Ema boards and their cultural significance in Japan. Ema boards are small wooden plaques used in Japan for writing prayers or wishes. Traditionally, these ema boards are found at shrines and temples, where visitors can purchase them to write their prayers or wishes and hang them on special boards. After learning all about ema boards, students were tasked with creating their own designs.

Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
Thank you to those parents who have already so generously volunteered their time in the pick up zones. We truly appreciate your help.
We would love parent helpers in pick up zones this year. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
