BCE Early Years Network Meeting: Hosted at Guardian Angels’
On Wednesday this week, our school had the opportunity to host Brisbane Catholic Education’s Early Years Network meeting. This gathering is coordinated by Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) for the purpose of sharing of best practice across schools, within the early years (Prep – Year 2). The focus of this gathering was ‘Responding to Data through Classroom Practice’. At Guardian Angels’, this is one of the focus areas connected to our Explicit Improvement Agenda; informing our directions as we work ‘towards consistency’ in our whole school reading routines and practices.
As the host school, our Early Years Teaching Teams (Prep - Year 2), showcased the ways that they have used evidence of student learning in reading to monitor progress, and to identify what students know and can do. They then outlined how this information is then used to identify next steps and design explicit learning and teaching sequences for our students. These sequences come to life in the Learning Loops (Learning Intention, Success Criteria and Feedback), that are displayed in each of our learning areas, and are used to support engagement of each student in the learning process.
At Guardian Angels’, these processes are supported by our Measure, Monitor, Act sessions (MMAs). Our MMAs are one of the ways that our teaching teams respond to data in their everyday practices, and forms a part of our professional learning framework.
We were proud to welcome colleagues from across our BCE Southern Cluster to GA, with the afternoon providing a richness of professional sharing of best practice, followed by a gallery walk. The gallery walk enabled our guests to visit each of the learning areas in Prep – Year 2 with our teaching facilitating professional dialogue around the rooms as ‘learning spaces’, supporting explicit routines for guided, modelled and shared practices (e.g. designated guided reading areas), learning loops and learning walls with worked examples.
Mother’s Day Stall: Thank you to our P&F
I would like to extend sincere thanks to our P&F for their efforts with our Mother’s Day Stall. This is a wonderful initiative for our school and showcases our beautiful community spirit.
Details of the stall will be provided at your next P&F meeting, however, this year, there were surplus funds raised. These funds will contribute to the purchase of AV equipment for the P&F. The purpose of the equipment is to enable a hybrid meeting (ie online and face to face) to occur for most P&F meetings. This is a great initiative to enable more parents to engage in meetings, to feel connected and involved in the P&F, while balancing the busyness of family life.
The Mothers Day Stall would not have been possible without the efforts of several volunteers who sourced, purchased, received, stored, packaged and sold gifts but particular mention to Kylie, Kendall, Naomi and Lee-Anne for all your help to ensure both days were a success. And thank you also to our parent community for supporting their child/children to access the stall.
Blessings for the week ahead

Good afternoon lovely families,
School Photos
Our official school photos day is scheduled for next Monday (Monday 29 May).
There will not be any catchup photo days at school so it would be wonderful to have as many of our beautiful students here as possible on Monday 29th.
It is an expectation that all students wear their full school uniform for School Photo day including correct hair ties, shoes and socks. Our Prep students will wear their sports uniform as usual.
The students in 2 Red and 2 Yellow will have HPE in the afternoon on Monday 29 May. These students must also arrive at school in their full formal school uniform please. Of course you may pack their sports uniforms in their bags if you want them to change for their sport lesson in the afternoon. This is optional. The students can certainly participate in their sports lesson in their day uniform as a one off. I will schedule these Year 2 students early in the day, allowing time for them to change into their sports uniform if you feel that is necessary.
Please see the instructions for ordering.
Parents who would like to order family/sibling photos can the use same Access Key H655NJ5P.
An important note on family/sibling photo orders: these orders must be placed by 4:30pm, Sunday 28 May. Any family/sibling photos that have not been ordered before the cut-off will not be taken. Unfortunately, the photographers cannot make any exceptions on the day.
All students will have an individual photo taken on Photo Day regardless of whether an order has been placed. Individual student ordering will stay open after Photo Day however orders placed after the bulk of orders have been printed will be sent directly to parents and will incur a postage charge per order.
If you experience any issues with ordering your photos via the online instructions please contact Leading Image directly by phone: 1800 750 586 or email: info@leadingimage.com.au
QC Cup - Primary Netball
Mrs Lisa Gear, Mrs Clare Irving and I spent the most wonderful day at Downey Park on Monday with our wonderful Guardian Angels 11/12 year old netball team who were competing in the QC (Queensland Catholic) Primary School Netball Competition.
We are BEYOND PROUD of our young ladies who represented Guardian Angels’ so beautifully. They were exemplary in their behaviour and attitude throughout the entire day. Oh … and they played phenomenally well also. The girls played seven games across the day and were UNDEFEATED; taking home their Division title. There were several nail-biting moments for us, but the girls just kept on trying; giving of their best with respectful dignity and perseverance.
This team has been training together twice a week for the past several weeks; both before school and after school. Their approach to training was always so positive and Lisa, Clare and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment we spent with the girls both at training and at the carnival.
We were so blessed to have most of their parents there with us. We had the BEST cheer squad by far!! The motivation and affirmation this gave the girls was so valuable. As is always the case at Guardian Angels’, we were so wonderfully supported by our parents who attended Monday’s carnival with us, helped get gazebos, tables etc to the event and ensured our girls attended training sessions. We are just so grateful to you all.
This could never have happened without the dedicated brilliance of Lisa Gear and Clare Irving, who worked together to train and prepare our team. Clare also represented Guardian Angels’ as our official umpire … and let me tell you, she was second to none. My most sincere thanks must be extended to Clare and Lisa.
We have all enjoyed this experience so much, we have decided to register the Guardian Angels’ team in the Primary Schools Cup in the September holidays. This competition will be much harder as teams from all across the state will gather in Mudgeeraba to compete across two days. No matter what though, I know our girls will have a blast at this event because they come with such a positive mindset. In a job that offers me countless highlights and wonderful moments on a daily basis, this one is certainly way up there as one of the most memorable.
Dance Superstars (Prep-Year 2)
Remember to pop this very important date into your diaries … Friday 16 June - 2:00pm. Our littlest angels in Prep – Year 2 have started their dance lessons and Friday 16 June we will enjoy the Superstars Dance Extravaganza (that’s what I call it). This is one of my most favourite days of the whole year … Hopefully you will be able to join us on 16 June in the Shed to witness our little dancing kings and queens.
Blessings to you all for the coming weeks

Mary Help of Christians Feast Day
The 24th of May is the feast of Mary Help of Christians, also known as Mary of the Southern Cross. Mary Help of Christians is the patron saint of Australia and has been since 1844. She is not to be confused with St Mary of the Cross MacKillop who is Australia’s first-born saint. We celebrate Mary, as May is the month dedicated to her. Mary, the Mother of Jesus, has taken many different names and Mary Help of Christians is just one of the many.
Pentecost
On Sunday 28 May, we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. Pentecost is when the Holy Spirit, in the form of fire, descended on many people gathered together. This also officially marks the end of the Easter season. The liturgical colour for Pentecost is red but now we will return to Ordinary Time and the colour green will be visible throughout the Church. We will have a whole school Mass at 9:00am Thursday 25 May to celebrate, all are welcome.
Class Mass Timetable – Term 2
This term we are excited to begin class masses. We will be combining our class masses with sacred singing and over the remainder of the year all classes will have a chance to host Mass in our beautiful church.
Below are the dates, time of mass and hosting classes, we hope to see you there.
Year Level Parish Mass
This term we have two year level led masses within our Parish. We invite our Year 4 and Year 2 families to join us for 5:00pm Parish Mass on the following dates.
We look forward to seeing you.
Important Dates:

God bless and take care,

Congratulations to our Sports Aerobics teams who competed in their very first competition for 2023 last Saturday. Five teams represented Guardian Angels’ across Years 1 to 6 with fantastic results:

In other news...
Too sick for school?
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild.
If your child vomits or has diarrhoea at home we ask for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea before your child returns to school.
If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in keeping our school community well.
Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
We would love parent helpers in pick up zones this year. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
I have had a few parents contact me about shifts and I will update the roster and publish in next Thursday's bulletin. If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. This training needs to be renewed annually and can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx

From the P&F
Recent purchases for the Tuckshop
An untimely coincidence saw not one but two freezers simultaneously out of action in the Tuckshop. One stopped working completely and the other was on loan and had to be returned. To support the ongoing running of the tuckshop the P&F recently purchased a vertical and chest freezer to replace these assets.
Not only do these new items provide far more storage space than was available before, Annalise Olm, our valued Tuckshop Manager, is extremely pleased that she will now be able to buy in bulk and store more items when they are on special.
