LIVE the GA Way: Take Time to ‘Value Relationships’
Thank you for your gift of time!
On the way to school this morning, I was stopped at traffic lights beside an electronic board that was displaying the phrase, ‘the most precious gift we can give to others is our time’. It always amazes me just how often we receive these little reminders that are just what we need; given that I had just looked at my watch, the traffic in front of me and was thinking about the activities of the day ahead.
It did start me thinking about how we can give the gift of time and just how important it is, particularly as we look towards the end of term and navigate the busyness that it brings and consider how we might spend our time in the break.
So, as I went about planning my morning, I thought about the importance of ensuring that ‘time’ was put to best use. Of course, this is connected to being productive and completing tasks, but it is also dependent on the connections that we take ‘time’ to create.
As I went about my morning, I noticed the ‘time’ that was given by students, staff and parents to others; time to say good morning, to stop and share a story or to have a chat, to prepare learning activities, to help a child carry their bag or to find their hat, to being a ‘buddy’ and so much more. Putting our time to best use benefits from us taking the time to connect in moments, no matter how big or small, as we share our gifts, talents, energy and enthusiasm with those around us.
We all have days and weeks where there seems to be too much to do and too little time to do it, but somewhere along the line, intentional or otherwise, the gift of your time to another has made a real difference – and maybe you haven’t even realised it.
As we LIVE the GA Way, we take time to focus on what it means to ‘Value Relationships’. What a great reminder that in the simplicity of spending time with each other and doing things together is a one way that we value each other.
Time may just be one of the greatest, and most precious, gifts that we have; both for self and to give to others. God gives each of us just 168 hours each week, and He gives them in trust, asking that we use them wisely. Sometimes it isn’t the achievement that we remember from investing our time, it is the moments of sharing our time with friends and family. All of this is time that we can never get back, but it will stay in our hearts and minds forever.
Your time is precious, and as we navigate another busy week, thank you for the gift of time that you give to our school community. The time that is given in the little things that support us to create a spirit of community that we are all very proud to be a part of.
Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter!
Blessings for the week ahead

Good afternoon lovely families,
Drop off and Pick Up Zones
Whilst most of our parents/carers are utilising our Drop Off and Pick Up Zones appropriately (thank you), there are still a number of parents/carers who are NOT doing so.
Please be sure that you are familiar with the expectations of these areas in the school that serve to make life as easy as possible for you and, most importantly, keep our beautiful kids safe and sound.
Please approach the zones from the correct area (not cutting around corners, jumping queues etc) as this causes understandable frustration for those parents who wait patiently for their turn to enter the zone from the correct areas. It is also important that parents/carers inform any person who is responsible for using the zones of our expectations in these areas eg grandparents, friends, day carers etc
Some important things to note:
- All cars are to approach the Drop Off/Pick Up Zones from the identified areas please:
- GA Campus … along Akonna Street from Cedar Street NOT Pine Street (please do NOT cut the corner from Pine Street to enter Akonna Street Drop Off/Pick Up Zone)
- MC Campus … along Pine Street approaching from Tingal Road
- GA Campus … along Akonna Street from Cedar Street NOT Pine Street (please do NOT cut the corner from Pine Street to enter Akonna Street Drop Off/Pick Up Zone)
- Please do not park/wait in front of residents’ driveways. They should be able to access in/out of their properties at any time, and we need to be respectful of this.
- ALL students are to exit vehicles from the KERB SIDE ONLY. Under no circumstances should a student be exiting a vehicle from the road side of the car.
- School bags must be in the car with the students: NOT stored in the back of the car/boot. We will not allow boots to be opened whilst in the zones.
- No drivers (or other passengers) are to get out of the car in the Drop Off/Pick Up Zones please. If your child cannot exit or enter a vehicle independently, the best option is for you to park your car and walk your child into school.
- Please DO NOT USE THE CHURCH CAR PARK, or anywhere in CHESTNUT STREET or BAY TERRACE as a Drop Off and/or Pick Up Area. Any student found waiting in these areas will be redirected to an assigned (and supervised) zone.
- Any student who remains in the Pick Up Zone from 3:20pm, will be taken to the respective campus office where they will remain safely with staff until they are collected.
Thank you for your kind understanding in this matter. It is really important that ALL families are following the expectations of areas such as Drop Off and Pick Up Zones in and around our school. This makes this service as efficient as possible and of course, helps to support the safety of our students and staff … nothing is more important than that!!!
May I also remind everyone that school opens for students at 8:05am and no earlier. Of course the exceptions to this are those families who are utilising OSHC (Outside School Hours Care) by booking their child/ren into this service. It is concerning to see students dropped at school, often outside locked school gates and left to wait there on their own until the gates open and the school is supervised from 8:05am.
School Photos
Our school photo day is done and dusted. I would like to tell you all how proud we are of our students here at Guardian Angels’. They were so well mannered and respectful; really LIVING THE GA WAY! And it doesn’t go unnoticed … the photographers always comment about how lovely our kids are, and this year was no different. The staff from Leading Edge made special mention of our beautiful students and staff. We are so blessed to have such amazing students and beautiful families here at GA … and most of their ‘photo smiles’ were fabulous!!! School photos should be delivered to school in the coming weeks.
Dance Superstars (Prep-Year 2)
Remember to pop this very important date into your diaries … Friday 16 June @ 2:00pm. Our littlest angels in Prep – Year 2 are really grooving in their Friday dance lessons. On Friday 16 June we will enjoy the Superstars Dance Extravaganza (that’s what I call it). This is one of my most favourite days of the whole year … Hopefully you will be able to join us on 16 June in the Shed to witness our little dancing kings and queens.
Semester One School Reports
The classroom and specialist teachers are all super busy at the moment, working on their Semester One Reports. These will become available to our lovely parents in the last week of Term Two (Tuesday afternoon/evening 20 June) through the Parent Portal. Be sure to download and/or print your copies from here. Remember … once your wonderful child/ren leaves GA, you will no longer have access to the reports, so downloading, saving, printing is really important.
Blessings to you all for the coming weeks,
Nicole Waller

Reconciliation Week
This week is Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for National Reconciliation Week remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. This journey requires all of us to walk together with courage as we take a crucial step towards a unified future, in which we understand, value and respect each other. This National Reconciliation Week, we invite Australians from all backgrounds to contribute to our national movement towards a unified future. As a school community, we will acknowledge this week with class prayer reflections and we will create a Sea of Hands to represent our community standing in solidarity with and in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
World Environment Day
Monday 5 June is World Environment Day. It was initiated by the United Nations as a way of highlighting and active participation in the protection of our environment. St Francis of Assisi was an advocate for our environment and sustainability. We encourage everyone to follow in the footsteps of St Francis and ask “what can I do to protect the environment?”
Class Mass Timetable – Term 2
This term we are excited to begin class masses. We will be combining our class masses with sacred singing and over the remainder of the year all classes will have a chance to host Mass in our beautiful church.
Below are the dates, time of mass and hosting classes, we hope to see you there.
Year Level Parish Mass
We look forward to seeing you there.
God bless and take care,
Rhiannon Cameron
From the Year 6 Stewardship Committee
The Stewardship committee is responsible for supporting and providing opportunities for our school community to create a sustainable future. As servant leaders, the students engage in a Gospel inquiry focussing on Stewardship, to develop their own leadership identity to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. With our Franciscan Charism present in all we do and say, this committee will connect with the words of St Francis of Assisi: ‘Start by doing what’s necessary; then do what’s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible’ to inspire our school community with initiatives that highlight our care for all of God’s creation.
This year our stewardship committee has started a containers for change initiative. The proceeds will be spent improving our school environment. This will initially include our vegetable patches in Chestnut Street playground. If you are interested in helping us by saving your bottles and distributing them at containers for change then please choose us as your charity. Please use the QR code below.
We are also saving a lot of containers from going into landfill. WIN WIN!!
Thank you.
Yr 6 Stewardship Committee and Mr Trimble
Guardian Angels' Reading Challenge
This week your student was invited to participate in the 2023 Guardian Angels' Reading Challenge. This challenge will continue until Friday 11 August. Please see the below flyer for further information.
Your student has been provided with a reading record sheet to complete at home as books are read. This is to be returned to school as each section is completed to receive a certificate from your classroom teacher. Each completed section also entitles your student to one ticket into the reading prize draw. This will be drawn during our Book Week Parade in Term 3.
Please note, this challenge aims to encourage reading for pleasure and, as such, homework readers do not count towards books read.
We look forward to your support in encouraging and assisting your child to participate in this event as reading for pleasure has such important benefits.

Too sick for school?
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild.
If your child vomits or has diarrhoea at home we ask for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea before your child returns to school.
If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in keeping our school community well.
Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
We would love parent helpers in pick up zones this year. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
I have had a few parents contact me about shifts and I will update the roster and publish in next Thursday's bulletin. If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.

From the Parish
Parent Session (next Thursday 8 June) for the Sacrament of Confirmation (Grade 3 and above)
We are inviting parents who would like their children to commence the 3-year Sacramental Preparation Program of the Parish to come along to the Parent Session at 7:00pm next Thursday, 8 June in the Parish Hall.
To be eligible for the Sacramental Preparation Program, the children need to already be baptised and now be in Grade 3 (8 years of age) or above. This is the beginning of your child’s 3-year Sacramental Journey. If you would like to enrol your child, please make sure at least one parent attends the Parent Session as it is an essential part of the enrolment process. The evening is for parents, not the children. Some refreshments will be available before the session begins, so feel free to come early. Contact the parish office if you have any questions, or bring those questions along on the night. Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday.
