Guardian Angels' Newsletter - Update Term 2 | Week 6
Term 2 Week 6 - School News
Dear Parents and Friends
What our staff, parents and students think about our school matters. This Term, our school is taking part in the Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) Listens Survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our community of staff, parents and students think about learning and working at our school. Survey findings will be used to inform our school’s future work and improvement journey.
What you need to know
The 2022 survey will be held between Monday 6 June to Thursday 23 June. To ensure privacy and confidentiality are maintained, an independent survey provider – Australian Survey Research – will conduct the survey on behalf of our school and Brisbane Catholic Education.
Parents and students who complete the survey will not be identified when the results are later provided to the school. The school will only receive information based on the collective answers of those who participated in the survey. Where fewer than five people respond to a question, the results will be suppressed.
The parent survey takes 10 minutes or less to complete
The student survey takes between 5 to 20 minutes to complete, depending on age and/or reading ability of the student, and will be administered by the school, to students in Years 4, 5 and 6, during normal school hours.
- There is nothing you need to do if you are happy for your child to participate in the survey.
- Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
- Your child will take part in the survey at school.
- If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time.
If you have any questions, please contact Veronica Tomerini-Smith.
As partners in your child’s education, what you think of our school matters. Thank you for supporting our school community with the BCE Listens Survey.

St Anthony's Cross Country
Last Friday, a team of 53 runners from Guardian Angels’ attended the St. Anthony's Invitational Cross Country Carnival. Our runners did an amazing job on what was a chilly day with patches of heavy rain. Special congratulations to Christina and Tom for finishing first in their races and to Georgia and Rocky for finishing second in their races. Congratulations to our Intermediate Girls team for taking out first place in their division.
A sports carnival wouldn't be complete without Team Spirit and Guardian Angels’ had this in abundance. Stefan, Kaden and Miles ran up an age range to make up team numbers, running an extra 500m to help the Senior Boys team out - well done boys! And every runner received an almighty cheer as they rounded the final corner regardless of their time or place which was wonderful to witness.
Thanks also to the parents who were able to join us and add to the cheer squad!

Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
Thank you to those parents who have already so generously volunteered their time in the pick up zones. We truly appreciate your help.
We would love parent helpers at both campuses from Term 2. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. The training can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx
You will need to download, print and complete your registration form, which is contained within your online training. Return it to the School Office prior to commencing your role.
COVID-19 - Close contacts
Someone is a close contact if they have been with a person that has COVID-19 for more than four hours in a house or other accommodation, a care facility or similar. For more information see the close contacts definition. You are not a close contact if you have had COVID-19 in the past 12 weeks.
From Thursday 28 April 2022, there will be no quarantine requirements for close contacts as long as they:
- do not have COVID-19 symptoms
- test negative every second day for a week from the day of becoming a close contact (day 0, 2, 4 and 6)
- wear a mask outside of home for 7 days
- do not visit any vulnerable settings (hospitals, residential aged care facilities, disability accommodation services, corrective services facilities and detention centres) for 7 days
- let their employer know they are a close contact, and work from home if possible.
Until then, the requirements on this page continue to be in effect for anyone who is a close contact of someone who has COVID-19.
Please note, students under 12 in primary schools will continue to be exempt from the mask-wearing requirement.
A reminder to keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild. If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in these challenging times.
Second-hand Uniform Shop
To cater for the current demand for second hand winter items one of our lovely parent volunteers will open the second-hand shop tomorrow 27 May.
The second hand uniform shop will always be open on the first Monday of the month with the next open day on Monday 6 June.
The shop will open between 7:50 and 8:20am on the GA campus. Each item is $5. Cash only sales.
A big thank you to Shannon Dobson and Meng-Ling Wu for their invaluable time in managing and running the second hand shop.
School Photo Reminder
School photos were taken this week. One final, friendly reminder, if you haven't already, to place your photo orders before Tuesday 31 May. Photos should be available to take home early in Term 3.
Random Acts of Kindness
According to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/) there are six core kindness concepts: Respect, Caring, Inclusiveness, Integrity, Responsibility and Courage.
Respect
At Guardian Angels' we show respect in the classroom and in the playground by using kind words and being cooperative, at gathering times and liturgies by listening with our whole body, at eating times and at play by including others and in pick up zones by listening to the teacher and considering others around us.
Send in your favourite kindness quotes, random acts of kindness, or how you show respect in your family, together with your name and class, to Mrs Druce in the School Office to see them featured in the school newsletter.
