To Achieve Life’ Through Wellbeing: Inspiring Others as we LIVE the GA Way
This week at Guardian Angels we celebrated Wellness Week.
Wellness Week is a great opportunity to dive into our ‘ways of living’ by Inspiring Others as we LIVE the GA way; prioritising one’s own well-being. It's easy to lose sight of ourselves amidst the busyness of the responsibilities and challenges of the everyday. However, embracing a wellness mindset, not only rejuvenates our spirits but also sets a remarkable example for those around us.
The Ripple Effect of Wellness: Lighting the Path for Others
Taking care of our wellbeing does not only benefit self, but it has the power to ignite a chain reaction. When we prioritise our mental, emotional, and physical health, we show others that self-care is essential. By openly sharing our journey, we inspire friends, family, and colleagues to embark on their path towards a more balanced and fulfilled life. Remember, your actions resonate far beyond your immediate circle.
Our school motto, To Achieve Life, embraces our uniqueness gifted to us by God, as we live a life of love for self and others. By consistently practicing self-care, we foster resilience that ripples outward, empowering individuals as we demonstrate that personal well-being is the foundation upon which we live a ‘life to the full’.
By embracing self-care and living out the motto "To Achieved Life," you become a beacon of inspiration, illuminating the path for others to follow. As you embark on your journey of self-discovery and growth, remember that your choices not only transform your life but also uplift the lives of those fortunate enough to be touched by your example.
The live our motto, To Achieve Life, is intrinsically tied to the care we show ourselves. Let's continue to Inspire Others through our commitment to well-being, igniting a transformative movement that uplifts everyone.
Blessings for the week ahead

Good afternoon lovely families,
Free Dress Day Tomorrow
On Sunday 27 August, our beautiful school community will celebrate ANGELS ON THE OVAL; a great event organised and hosted by our fabulous P&F.
The SUPER FUN CHOCOLATE TOSS features at Angels on the Oval. This always proves very popular with our beautiful angels.
To help boost our chocolate supply, we are having FREE DRESS DAY TOMORROW FRIDAY 11 AUGUST.
Students can wear free dress to school, and we ask that they bring along some chocolate that will be used at the Chocolate Toss.
Students can bring:
- chocolate bars
- blocks of chocolate
- bags of individual chocolates eg Kit Kat, Mars etc
It will be a wonderfully colourful day here at school on Friday 11 August if all students wore free dress and brought along the chocolates to help support Angels on the Oval.
Please remember that free dress days at school include:
- sensible, closed in shoes (their school sports shoes are perfect for days such as this)
- sun safe clothing ie shirts must have sleeves and full coverage (ie no midriff tops)
- SCHOOL HATS must still be worn
Student Free Day
Every year in Term Three, schools throughout the Brisbane Catholic Education diocese have a STUDENT FREE DAY. We use this as a valuable professional opportunity to work together to strengthen teaching and learning practices throughout our school.
This student free day generally falls on the Friday of Week 8 in Term Three each year.
This year, the STUDENT FREE DAY is FRIDAY 1 SEPTEMBER (Week 8).
Schools will not be open for students on this day so please ensure arrangements have been made to support your family. Those families associated with OSHC and who may require student care for Friday 1 September, please contact OSHC directly to make those arrangements.
Parent Teacher Interviews – Term Three
In the second last week of this term (Week 9), we will again be offering formal Parent Teacher Interview opportunities. These interviews are wonderful opportunities for parents to catch up with their child/ren’s teacher/s and celebrate the students’ successes and achievements. It is also allows for important discussion regarding ways that we, as a team, can support our students in areas of strength, challenge and with relationships with others. I always recognise how busy your lives are and it can sometimes be difficult to schedule opportunities to meet with the teachers, so I will flag these dates with you now. Monday 4 to Friday 8 September will be the week where Parent Teacher Interviews will be offered to our parents.
Parent Teacher Interviews are easily booked through the PTO (Parent Teacher Online) link in the Parent Portal. Interview times will be open to parents from Monday 21 August. You will have until Wednesday 30 August to book an interview time.
Dance Concert Years 3-6
Another one of my favourite times of the year!!!! The Superstars dancing lessons are continuing for our students in Year 3-6. Every Friday until 8 September (Week 9), with the exception of the Student Free Day of course, our students will enjoy a specialised dance lesson with our friends from Superstars. This will culminate in, what I like to call, a DANCE EXTRAVAGANZA!
Of course our beautiful parents and families are invited to join us for this grand dancing event so be sure to pencil it in to your diary and come along if you can. Friday 8 September at 2:15pm in the MC Shed. This one is not to be missed!
Blessings to you all for the coming weeks,
Nicole Waller

Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
“Never see a need without doing something about it”
On Tuesday, we celebrated the feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. Mary MacKillop is credited, together with Fr Julian Tenison Woods, as the founder of the Sisters of St Joseph. Together they provided education for children from poor families, who otherwise would not have been able to attend school. Mary MacKillop fought many hardships in her life, including the deaths of her siblings and mother, and being ex communicated at one stage. She was a truly amazing woman and a pioneer in education and faith in Australia. In 2010 she was officially granted the title of Saint, becoming known as St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. Please feel free to visit the Sisters of St Joseph’s website to read more about this remarkable woman.
Feast of The Assumption
Next Tuesday, we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, this is a Holy Day of Obligation. On this day we acknowledge when Mary, the mother of Jesus was assumed into Heaven and crowned. We take this time to remember the amazing sacrifice that Mary made and the confidence that she had in our God, when she accepted her role to be the mother of Jesus Christ.
To acknowledge this day you may wish to pray with an icon of Mary. Lectio Divina is a popular prayer. Simply follow these easy steps.
- Find a place where you can be quiet, comfortable and attentive
- Ready – still comfortably and focus on your breathing
- Read – take time to look at the icon, see “more”
- Read and reflect – what is the icon calling you to be? What do you hear?
- Read and respond – journal your thoughts, write your prayer
- Read and rest – let the icon rest in your heart
- Be – be with your thoughts. Give time for this to happen
Parent Formation Session
This week we had our termly parent formation session, thank you to those who attended to join in our informal discussion on topics of faith to be helpful for our journey of faith.
Confirmation
Last weekend some of our students completed a workshop in preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. We keep these students in our prayers and we look forward to celebrating with them as they receive their sacrament.

Below are the dates, time of mass and hosting classes, we hope to see you there.

The Third Teacher - Creating A Collaborative Culture of Learning
After parents and teachers, our classroom environment becomes known as the Third Teacher. Our classrooms become interactive learning spaces where children and teachers co-construct Learning Walls that students can refer to at any time to increase their understanding of what they are learning and where they are at with their learning. The Third Teacher prompts can include anchor charts, unpacked Learning Intentions, co-constructed Success Criteria, Learning Walls with “big idea thinking,” student work samples and Bump It Up Walls.
It has been lovely seeing these Learning Walls in action around our school with our students actively engaging with them to support their learning.

Bullying No Way! Day - 18 August

The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence (NDA) - or Bullying No Way! Day is on Friday 18 August. Whether you're a parent, teacher, student or member of the broader community, everyone has a role to play in preventing bullying.
The National Day of Action theme for 2023 is 'growing connections'. This theme supports research findings that strong school community connections and social skills are protective factors in the prevention of bullying and help enable positive, help-seeking behaviours in students. Growing positive connections with other students and the broader school community can enhance students' cognitive, behavioural, and emotional engagement.
At Guardian Angels’ our Live the GA Way Initiative reminds us about the choices that we make in our relationships with others, including how we treat others and how we show and encourage respect. This approach means working together to solve problems in a way that enables a sense of strong community connections.
The Bullying. No Way! website provides wonderful resources for schools and parents. This website has produced a range of handy fact sheets for families and students which you can find here: https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/resources/fact-sheets
Students and staff are invited to wear orange on Friday 18 August to show their support for the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. We look forward to supporting this important initiative.

Too sick for school?
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild.
If your child vomits or has diarrhoea at home we ask for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea before your child returns to school.
If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in keeping our school community well.
Drop off and pick up zone volunteers

We would love parent helpers in pick up zones this year. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
I have had a few parents contact me about shifts and I will update the roster and publish in next Thursday's bulletin. If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. This training needs to be renewed annually and can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx
You will need to download, print and complete your registration form, which is contained within your online training. Return it to the School Office prior to commencing your role.

Interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith of the school your children attend? The Church’s mission is to offer people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to come to know God and God’s plan more deeply as well as to belong to the Church family. Those who enquire undertake a journey of faith through the RCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). And, if they feel ready, they are welcomed into the Church through the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. If you or someone you know would like to know more about the RCIA journey, and the possibility of becoming a Catholic, please contact the parish office (3393 4980) as this year’s RCIA process will be commencing in September.
