‘Growing Connections’: National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence
This Friday, 18 August 2023, we acknowledge the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, with all in our Guardian Angels’ community invited to wear orange on Friday 18 August to show their support.
This is a great initiative and I encourage you to read the information from our Guidance Counsellor, Renae Haggitt, below.
Being Kind Online
Supporting our students to develop good habits and to have safe online experiences is a partnership, with a growing number of parents and carers seeking the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children in the home environment.
The theme ‘Growing Connections’ is a timely reminder around the importance of providing guidance and support to our children to enable them to develop good habits, set rules and boundaries, have conversations about online activities, and to make sound decisions when using devices and navigating online.
Have you thought about creating a ‘family tech’ agreement?
A family tech agreement is a set of rules about how devices, like smartphones, tablets, computers, TVs and gaming consoles are used in your home.
There are great resources on the eSafety Commissioner site with one being the ‘how to’ for creating a ‘family tech’ agreement.
Start the conversation with your family and develop an agreement that will suit the age and needs of your children.
Access the link below to find some templates for under 5’s and 5-8’s.
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/resources/family-tech-agreement
Importantly, the information in the template for 5-8s is easily adaptable for our older children and is well worth a look, especially if you are at the beginning of developing habits, rules and routines in your family.
What about the basics?
Support your children safely navigate their digital world and educate them to develop habits that support their wellbeing and promote positive online experiences.

Free eSafety Webinars for Parents
eSafety's free webinars provide parents and carers with the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children to have safe, positive online experiences.
The Education and Training team within the eSafety Commisioner has a series of free webinars to support families as part of the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence in August 2023.
I encourage all our familes to explore the broad range of topics that will be delivered by an expert education and training team:
For Families
A series of webinars are available for families including:
- eSafety 101: How eSafety can help you, for parents and carers of young people in primary and secondary school.
- Getting the most out of gaming, for parents and carers of children aged 7 to 14.
- Online boundaries and consent, for parents and carers of young people in primary school.
- Getting started with social media: TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, for parents and carers of young people in primary school
For a full list of webinars for parents and carers, visit the eSafety Commissioner Website
Kind regards
Veronica Tomerini-Smith
Bullying No Way! Day - 18 August
The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence (NDA) - or Bullying No Way! Day is on Friday 18 August. Whether you're a parent, teacher, student or member of the broader community, everyone has a role to play in preventing bullying.
The National Day of Action theme for 2023 is 'growing connections'. This theme supports research findings that strong school community connections and social skills are protective factors in the prevention of bullying and help enable positive, help-seeking behaviours in students. Growing positive connections with other students and the broader school community can enhance students' cognitive, behavioural, and emotional engagement.
At Guardian Angels’ our Live the GA Way Initiative reminds us about the choices that we make in our relationships with others, including how we treat others and how we show and encourage respect. This approach means working together to solve problems in a way that enables a sense of strong community connections.
The Bullying. No Way! website provides wonderful resources for schools and parents. This website has produced a range of handy fact sheets for families and students which you can find here: https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/resources/fact-sheets
Students and staff are invited to wear orange on Friday 18 August to show their support for the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. We look forward to supporting this important initiative.
