Principal News

You’re invited to have your say in the 2022 BCE Listens Survey.
Your feedback will help us understand what we do well and where we can improve. Together, everyone’s views will help us shape the future.
Check your email for a unique link from our survey provider Australian Survey Research and complete the survey.

When is the survey?
- The survey will be open from Monday 6 June to Thursday 23 June 2022
How do I receive my survey?
- The survey administrator Australian Survey Research will email a unique link directly to parents/carers.
How long will it take?
- The survey takes approximately 5 – 10 minutes.
Why complete the survey?
- What our staff, parents and students think about our school matters.
- One of the ways we can continually improve as a school is to seek regular feedback from our community.
- Survey findings will be used to inform our School’s future work and improvement journey, as well as the direction of Brisbane Catholic Education.
Are responses confidential?
- Parents who complete the survey will not be identified when the results are later provided to the school. The School will only receive information based on the collective answers of all parents who participated in the survey.
We would like to engage as many parents or carers as possible in the surveys and I invite you to take the opportunity to participate.
Thank you for supporting our school community with the BCE Listens Survey.
May peace be with you,
Veronica Tomerini-Smith

Good afternoon lovely families …
One of my most favourite times of the entire school year is coming up very soon!!!
The SUPERSTARS DANCE CONCERT for all students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 is scheduled for THURSDAY 16 JUNE at 1:45pm in the MC Shed.
When I say I LOVE this concert, I mean I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!! It would NOT be unusual to see me with a tear or two while we watch the little ones dancing their little socks off.
For the duration of Term 2 your little angels in Prep to Year 2 have been very busy getting their groove on and learning their dance in preparation for this awesome event. Our friends from Superstars will communicate any costume requirements for the concert in the next week or so. These are usually very minimal as the Superstars staff jazz up the costumes with their own accessories.
Of course, our beautiful parents are welcome to join us for this grand event on Thursday 16 June. This is usually a packed house so it’s a great idea to bring along your own seating if possible. We will have the tiered grass steps along the side of the Shed for seating, but parents who are able to bring their own chairs will also be able to assemble behind the students at the back of the Shed.
Looking forward to seeing you there if possible.
Years 3-6 will begin their dance lessons in Term 3 and we look forward to their dance concert extravaganza towards the end of Term 3. I will communicate details around this event once the date is confirmed with Superstars.
Blessings for the coming week

Reconciliation Week
This week, we recognise National Reconciliation Week, as it is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. National Reconciliation Week inspires all staff, students, and our community to be advocates for the Uluru Statement from the Heart and to Be Brave Make Change. Yesterday, our Year 3 Blue students lead us in a beautiful assembly that acknowledged the importance of standing together as a community, with courageous hearts ready to be brave and make a difference.
Five years ago, in 2017, some Aboriginal and Torres Strait people made a statement that came from the heart, one that we now call the “Uluru Statement From the Heart” because it was created in the Centre of Australia, the heat of Australia, Uluru. Brisbane Catholic Education has gifted each of its schools with a canvas print of this statement which we have received and will present to the community when we celebrate NAIDOC week at the end of this term. This canvas will represent our commitment as a school, and as individuals, to a better future for all Australians including the First Nation people of this land Australia. We need to be brave enough to make that commitment and work out ways to be part of an action across Australia for a better future for all. Actions can be brave, actions can make a difference. As the “Uluru Statement From The Heart” calls us to do; as God of Justice and Action calls us to do; we commit to doing our part towards shaping fair and truthful relationship with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and to helping make a better future for First Nations children based on recognition, justice and support to work out the best way to live their own lives
Creator God,
Spirit that Breathes over this Land,
We come together today with courageous hearts, ready to serve You as:
People of Hope,
People of Light,
People of Justice,
People of Reconciliation.
In the spirit of Makarrata, let us come together with open hearts of Reconciliation.
Amen
We look forward to sharing the Uluru Statement from the Heart with the community in Week 10 this term, when we celebrate NAIDOC Week.
Blessings for the week ahead,
Hannah Goodwin

Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
Thank you to those parents who have already so generously volunteered their time in the pick up zones. We truly appreciate your help.
We would love parent helpers at both campuses from Term 2. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. The training can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx
You will need to download, print and complete your registration form, which is contained within your online training. Return it to the School Office prior to commencing your role.
Health and Wellbeing at GA
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild. If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in these challenging times.
Second-hand Uniform Shop
The second hand uniform shop will open on the first Monday of the month. The next shop open will be on Monday 6 June. The shop will open between 7:30 and 8:15am on the GA campus. Each item is $5. Cash only sales.
A big thank you to Shannon Dobson, Meng-Ling Wu and Belinda Huckin for their invaluable time in managing and running the second hand shop.
State of Origin - Wear Your Colours Day

When dressing in your colours:
- students may wear a Qld or NSW jersey, jumper or t-shirt, or accessorise their school uniform with maroon or blue
- remember to dress for the weather
- students must wear closed in shoes and have their school hat for break times
As Year 2 students are heading off site on excursion they will need to wear their school uniform as directed by their teachers.
Random Acts of Kindness

According to the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation (https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/) there are six core kindness concepts: Respect, Caring, Inclusiveness, Integrity, Responsibility and Courage.
Caring
At Guardian Angels' we show that we are caring in the classroom and in the playground by using kind words and including others, at gathering times and liturgies by allowing others their personal space, and in pick up zones by considering others around us and looking after personal property. Mrs Druce noticed students showing that they are caring this week by checking in on a friend in sick bay, and making plans to celebrate a classmate's or teacher's birthday.
Send in your favourite kindness quotes, random acts of kindness, or how you show that you are caring, together with your name and class, to Mrs Druce in the School Office to see them featured in the school newsletter.
