Approval of Reimagining of Play and Outdoor Facilities Project: MC Campus
I am excited to be able to share with you that approval for the Reimagining of Play and Outdoor Facilities Project on the MC Campus was received late last week.
I am in discussions with our BCE Building Services team around the next steps to progress the project but at this stage works are set to commence mid February 2024. I will keep you updated in the coming weeks.
Big thanks must go to the P&F Executive from 2022 who were instrumental in the major fundraising for this project: Gill Steinmetz, Nikki Hishon, Kelly Runge, Amelia Law and Alex Brown. And of course to our GA community for supporting all of the P&F initiatives that have assisted to fund this wonderful addition to our school.
Prep Orientation Visit #2
On Tuesday we welcomed our 2024 Preps and their parents to the second of our Prep Orientation sessions. While our 2024 Preps were participating in activities in the Prep Learning areas we engaged parents in the Shed for a parent information session.
Not only do we enjoy getting to know our newest learners through our orientation program it is with pride that we watch our Year 6s welcome the responsibility of being school leaders: either by providing happy welcoming faces for our excited but nervous 2024 Preps or participating in speaking opportunities in front of our incoming families. They are a true example of "I" Inspire others when they lead by example at these important school events.
Blessings for the week ahead
Veronica Tomerini-Smith
Assistant Principal - Administration
Good afternoon lovely families,
I hope all of our families are travelling well.
Booklists 2024
A couple of weeks ago, the students in Prep-Year Five brought home a hard copy of the required booklist for 2024. These were also uploaded and shared on the Parent Portal.
It is our preference that families utilise the ordering options from our loyal supplier, Edsco as this ensures that all students will have all of the required items they need to begin their new school year and engage fully in the wonderful teaching and learning. You have the option to order to full list or to customise the list through Edsco.
For each book pack that is ordered through Edsco, the school does receive a small commission from Edsco which is always responsibly utilised directly for the students each year. This may be to subsidize some extra classroom art supplies, purchase extra equipment for the students to play with at lunchtime etc. This is a very generous gesture from Edsco.
Parents have the option to order online (preferred) or to complete the paper order form provided. Whichever you decide, the cut off for ordering is Friday 10 November. THIS IS NEXT FRIDAY. Ordering by this time will ensure your book pack is delivered to your preferred address on or before Monday 18 December and will include delivery. It is really important that you check your order thoroughly upon delivery. Edsco are very reliable however it is always recommended that you check through the order to ensure it is accurate.
Edsco will still accept orders after Friday 10 November, however please be aware that you will incur a delivery fee in this case and delivery times cannot be guaranteed.
All instructions for ordering and information about delivery can be found on the front page of your booklist.
The classroom teachers have spent much time collaborating and discussing the booklist requirements for each year level. They work hard to ensure responsible decisions are made around these requirements and are always aware of minimising financial output wherever possible. For those parents who decide to source the items on the booklists yourselves, please be aware that the students require EVERY item on the booklist. For example, if the booklist states 8 exercise books, the student will need 8 exercise books. The teachers have been very explicit about each item (and number of items) on the list, so please be sure to replicate it if you decide to source the items elsewhere.
Of course, our current families who will have a prep student joining us next year, you may recall that you will not receive a booklist for the 2024 prep students. These booklists are compiled by the prep teachers then ordered directly through the school. They are also delivered directly to the school as these resources are shared out amongst the students. This seems to be the most efficient and effective process for prep students. Parents of 2024 Prep students will be billed directly through 2024 Term One school fees for the book packs.
My most genuine thanks to you all for your wonderful support of our school.
Semester Two Reports
Your child/ren’s classroom and specialist teachers are working hard to complete the students’ Semester Two Summary of Achievement (report). These will be finalised for you and uploaded to the Parent Portal on Tuesday 28 November (last week of school year). The reports should go live for parents sometime between 4:00 and 5:00pm on Tuesday 28 November.
Please remember that this is the only form of your child’s report that you will receive (no hard copy). When a student leaves Guardian Angels, parents no longer have access to the Parent Portal so it is important that you save and/or print the report off for any future requirement.
Creative Kids End of Year Music Showcase
We are so blessed that many of our students bring music joyfully into our lives. All year, many of our students have been learning to play a musical instrument with our Instrumental Music friends from Creative Kidz.
On Thursday 16 November, we will be privileged to enjoy their amazing musical talents as our instrumental students perform for us at an end of year music showcase. All parents and friends are welcome to join us to share in this wonderful demonstration of their talent and passion. If you have been thinking about your child joining the Instrumental Program, this is also a great opportunity to come along and witness how this experience enriches the lives of our students.
WHEN: Thursday 16 November
TIME: 1:45pm
WHERE: MC Campus (Shed)
We will open the gate on Pine Street from 1:40pm. Please enter only via this gate.
Blessings to you all for the coming weeks,
Nicole Waller
Assistant Principal - Religious Education
All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day
This week we acknowledge the Feast of All Saints and the Feast of All Souls. All Saints Day, which is celebrated on 1st November, commemorates all those who have been canonised and granted the title of Saint. The following day we celebrate All Souls Day. While those family members and friends who have died are never far from our hearts, this day is part of the belief in the Church that our journey to God does not end with our earthly death: that even after death, some are still journeying to an eternal life in God. In the Church there is a list where you can add the names of your families members and friends who have been born into eternal life. These names will be written into a book, this book will be placed in the Church for the whole month of November, and these people will be specifically prayed for.
Eternal rest grant to them,
O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Amen.

Primary Learning Leader
Guardian Angels has been fortunate enough to be a part of AERO (Australian Education Research Organisation) Learning Partner Project.
We were one of only three BCE schools selected to participate in this project. Our nomination by BCE was based on the strong alignment between our Explicit Improvement Agenda (EIA), that focuses on evidence-based practices in writing, and the core objectives of the project, that aim to enhance the implementation of evidence-based teaching practice.
The learning partner project focuses on how we can make evidence ‘stick’ in schools and support teachers to further develop their skills in explicit instruction. Explicit instruction is an evidence-based teaching approach that involves clearly and directly teaching new concepts and skills to students.
Throughout the year our AERO Partner, Dylan Evans, has been on site facilitating professional learning, engaging in modelling and guided practice sessions and coaching in our year 3 learning spaces. The project included a sequence of professional learning for our Prep – Year 6 teachers, with the teaching team in Years 3 attending several workshops outside of this time for specific PD and sharing of key project elements.
Our year 3 teachers worked closely with Dylan through the teaching functions of explicit instruction. It has been exciting visiting these learning spaces and seeing the children responding so positively and confidently to their learning in this space.

Too sick for school?
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild.
If your child vomits or has diarrhoea at home we ask for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea before your child returns to school.
If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in keeping our school community well.
Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
We would love parent helpers in pick up zones this year. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
I have had a few parents contact me about shifts and I will update the roster and publish in next Thursday's bulletin. If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
A friendly reminder, before commencing your role as a volunteer or other personnel at our school, you are required to complete the online volunteer training. This training needs to be renewed annually and can be found here: https://www.bne.catholic.edu.au/students-parents/student-protection/Pages/Student-Protection-and-Code-of-Conduct-Training-for-Volunteers-and-Other-Personnel.aspx

Second-hand Uniform Shop
The second hand uniform shop is open on the first Monday of the month with the next open day on Monday 6 November. The shop will open between 7:45am and 8:20am on the GA campus.
Each item is $5. Cash only sales.
