LAST DAY OF TERM 4 - SCHOOL CONCLUDES AT 12:00PM
From the Principal
Update: Arrangements, Treatment and Works Termite Activity Prep Rooms GA Campus
Earlier in the term, we identified some termite activity within the Prep Green classroom on the Guardian Angels’ Campus.
Over the past weeks, we have been working with our BCE Building Services Officer, Specialist Pest Control and Building Contractors to assess, treat and repair the area.
To minimise disruptions, support safety and to enable contractor access for treatment and repair works to occur, Prep Blue (Amelia Law) and Prep Green (Sheridan Arndell) classes were moved to alternative learning areas.
What does this mean for the Prep Blue and Prep Green classes for the remainder of 2023?
The Prep Green and Prep Blue classes will remain in their alternative learning spaces for the remainder of the 2023 school year.
- Prep Green (Sheridan Arndell) GA Room 12 (classroom space next to Year 1R)
- Prep Blue (Amelia Law) GA Room 6 (classroom space next to Prep R)
What are the planned works?
- Over the past weeks, treatment and inspection has resulted in the removal of the impacted areas. The termite activity has damaged areas of the internal flooring across both learning areas. However, the good news is, that the activity was contained to the floor areas, with some activity in an area of deck external to the building.
- The final treatment in the Prep learning areas is scheduled for this weekend (Saturday 18 November 2023).
- Following the treatment, the area needs to remain undisturbed for up to 4 weeks, prior to final inspection. After this final inspection, and pending confirmation that no further treatment is required, the builders will commence work to repair the learning areas.
- At this time, we plan to be back in our Prep learning areas for the commencement of the 2024 school year.
How does this impact on our Year 1Blue and Year 1Green classes?
Confirmation has been made that the termite activity and planned works are confined to the ground level of the building. This means that all works are confined to the ground level in the Prep rooms.
Therefore, Year 1Blue (Clare Irving) and Year 1Green (Vicki Lucas) will remain in their current classrooms and will not need to relocate.
I appreciate your kind understanding and support as we have needed to respond to this need within a short time frame.
Please contact me at school should you have any queries.
Reminder: Timeline for 2024 Staffing and Class Placements
The timeline for staffing and class placements was outlined earlier in the term, however, important dates are outlined below:
- Class structures, staffing and specialist arrangements will be communicated via the newsletter on Thursday 23 November 2023 (Week 8).
- Class placements for students will be finalised and communicated to parents on Monday 27 November 2023 (Week 9).
- A letter outlining your child’s 2024 Home Group and Teacher will be sent home with each student on Monday 27 November 2023. Please check your child’s bag for this information.
- Your child’s 2023 class teacher will share their 2024 class placement with them prior to the end of the school day on Monday 27 November 2023.
- Due to the complex nature of the placement process, I respectfully ask that requests are not made for changes to class placements, as student placements will not be changed.
- Students will enjoy a 'Meet the Teacher' morning on Wednesday 29 November 2023 where they will be able to spend some time with their 2024 class teacher.
Thank you for your continued support.
Blessings for the week ahead
Veronica Tomerini-Smith
Assistant Principal - Administration
Good afternoon lovely families,
This is such a busy and wonderful time of the year. A really fabulous opportunity to witness the way our little ones have grown up throughout the year. It’s hard to believe we will be welcoming a whole new cohort of prep angels very soon … I can remember our current preps coming to us like it was yesterday. What a privilege it is to share and spend each day with your beautiful children.
Semester Two Reports
Your child/ren’s classroom and specialist teachers are working hard to complete the students’ Semester Two Summary of Achievement (report). These will be finalised for you and uploaded to the Parent Portal on Tuesday 28 November (last week of school year). The reports should go live for parents sometime between 4:00 and 5:00pm on Tuesday 28 November.
Please remember that this is the only form of your child’s report that you will receive (no hard copy). When a student leaves Guardian Angels, parents no longer have access to the Parent Portal so it is important that you save and/or print the report off for any future requirement.
Uniform Reminders
Belonging to our wonderful school community is a true blessing. One way our students can demonstrate pride for their school is the way they wear their school uniform. Whilst I do understand that some aspects of uniforms fall into disrepair at this time of the year (eg shoes), it is really important that we, as a school community, continue to adhere to the uniform requirements for this school. I ask most respectfully that our parent community support us in this space, ensuring the students are wearing:
- the correct (appropriate) uniform for each day of the week ie sports uniforms only on the days specified by the classroom teachers.
- the correct shoes with the correct uniforms. I am seeing some students wearing sandshoes with the formal day uniform and they should be wearing black leather shoes with the day uniform.
- Sandshoes that are predominantly white. Shoes such as coloured converse are not appropriate.
- Appropriate school socks which are white socks that fold over at the ankle. The students should NOT be wearing anklet socks that only peep out of the top of their shoes.
- Uniforms in a reasonable state/condition. This includes skirts/dresses that are not too short.
- School hats
It is important that, as members of the school community, our students are wearing their uniforms correctly and with pride; right up until the last day of the school year. Of course we understand there may be extenuating circumstances. If this is the case, please inform your child’s teacher via an email or note. When I discuss uniform discrepancies with students, I will always ask if their teacher has received a note.
I am most grateful to you for helping to support the sense of community and belonging that aligns with uniforms within a school.
Blessings to you all for the coming weeks,
Nicole Waller
Assistant Principal - Religious Education
Remembrance Day
Last Friday, we stopped to remember the signing of the Armistice to acknowledge the end of World War 1. At 11am on 11th November, the guns on the Western Front fell silent. On this day we remember all those who have fought and gave their lives for our country. Thank you to our Year 6 Service Committee Leaders who led our liturgy and Mr Lance Lorraway for speaking.
Volunteer Breakfast
On Tuesday 14 November we celebrated our amazing volunteers, with a breakfast. We feel so fortunate to have so many volunteers who help to make Guardian Angels’ such a special place to be! Thank you for all you do in our community!
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
Next week marks our St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal! Please see information below from the Year 6 Stewardship Committee and how you can help us support this wonderful cause.

Primary Learning Leader
These last few weeks are always a very busy time of the year; however, our learning does not stop. It is wonderful to see our children remain so focused and engaged in their learning knowing the end of the school year is near.
Although home readers and library books are due to be returned to the library, we still encourage all our students to continue daily reading, especially over the long Christmas break.
For our Code Camp students please note that even though iPads need to be handed in next week, these students will still have access to their devices during their Code Camp sessions.
From Year 6
Spirit Committee
The Spirit Committee is excited to launch the St Vincent De Paul Christmas Appeal for 2023. This appeal is one that Guardian Angels continues to support for those families in need as we near the Christmas Season.
Millions of Australian families will be spending this Christmas in poverty. Many of them are facing hardship for the first time and have suddenly found themselves frightened about how they will keep a roof over their head and put food on the table let alone celebrate on Christmas Day. Vinnies is taking pressure off families who are at breaking point by providing food hampers, emotional support, and help with essentials.
This Year:
Monday 20 November - Fill the Pantry Day
Each year level are asked to bring different items.
Prep: Christmas Pudding
Year 1: Fruit Cake
Year 2: Tea and Coffee
Year 3: Custard (long life)
Year 4: Milo
Year 5/6: Christmas Lollies
Staff: Fruit Mince Pies or Christmas Gifts
Friday 24 November - free dress day with a gold coin donation

Too sick for school?
Please keep your child at home if they are experiencing any COVID-19, cold or flu-like symptoms, however mild.
If your child vomits or has diarrhoea at home we ask for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea before your child returns to school.
If we contact you because your child is unwell, please collect your child as soon as possible. This will help us to reduce the risk of spreading infections in our school.
Thank you for your support and understanding in keeping our school community well.
Drop off and pick up zone volunteers
We would love parent helpers in pick up zones this year. Pick up zones operate from 8:00am – 8:25am in the morning and from 2:55pm – 3:20pm in the afternoons. It's an easy 25 mins, opening car doors, helping little people in and out of cars.
If you can spare 20-30 minutes once or twice a week please email Jenny Druce at jdruce@bne.catholic.edu.au with your preferred day, time and campus.
I have had a few parents contact me about shifts and I will update the roster and publish in next Thursday's bulletin. If I have nominated you for a shift, and it’s not suitable, please let me know.
