MC Playground Revitalisation Project: Update
There has been much excitement as the contractors have continued the works on the MC Playground and Outdoor Facilities Project.
The new fence line along Chestnut St looks fantastic and the old playground has been removed. There has been a hive of activity with the diggers at work, sand being tipped, and boulders being delivered. Needless to say, all the activity providing great viewing for our students, who have enjoyed watching the progress.
Thank you to our students and staff who have transitioned easily to our temporary routines during construction.

From the Assistant Principal - Administration
Good afternoon lovely families,
CAR PARKING
It has come to our attention that some parents/carers are not parking appropriately in areas around the parish and school. This is a matter of both safety and consideration for others.
Please use all parking areas appropriately and please do not park outside of the designated line-marked parking spots. This is especially important in the parish carparks including the church car park on Pine Street and behind the MC Admin block on Chestnut Street.
CHURCH CAR PARK
Please note again that the Church Car Park is NOT a drop off and pick up area. Students are not to be dropped off or proceed to this car park for collection at any time. This is a parish car park that the school has been graciously allowed to access to support drop off and pick up procedures. Parents may park their vehicles in the designated car parks and walk into school to drop off or collect their child/ren.
Please do NOT park in the areas marked NO PARKING or PARISH SECRETARY. The Parish Secretary car park spot is designated especially for the staff who work every day in the parish presbytery and must be left vacant by parents of the school please.
It is also very dangerous to note that some drivers are parking in clearly marked NO PARKING zones within the Church Car Park. This practice puts others at risk and also makes it very difficult for others to navigate within the car park area.
A reminder that the church car park (including the veranda and ramp area attached to the church) is NOT a play space for students.
CHESTNUT STREET PARKING (MC CAMPUS)
The parish car park located behind the MC Admin building (entry Chestnut Street) has been graciously provided by the parish to the school to assist with parking spaces. If you utilise this parking area, please park only along the wooden fence side of the car park. The car parking spaces that run adjacent to the building are to be left free for the convenience of parishioners please.
I appreciate your support with these parking considerations as we are always working both for the safety of our beloved students and in respectful partnership with our parish friends.
CLOSURE OF BAY TCE (MC CAMPUS) GATE FRIDAY 3 MAY
You may have witnessed the transformation of the MC Bay Tce boundary with the installation of the new fencing. It's looking really great.
IT IS NOW TIME FOR THE BAY TCE GATE (MC CAMPUS) TO BE REPLACED. This is the gate leading from the Bay Tce traffic lights directly into the MC Campus.
Please take some time to be familiar with the following arrangements.
· The preparation and works for this job will begin on FRIDAY 3 MAY.
· The gate will remain open and accessible until AFTER SCHOOL BEGINS on Friday 3 May
(This means that students can still enter the school this way, and OSHC are able to transport the students to the GA Campus before school)
· The gate/fencing area will be closed off sometime after school begins on Friday morning (after 8:30am). It will remain inaccessible until the works are completed.
· Work will continue in this area on Friday 3 May and continue on Monday 6 May (Public Holiday) or until completed.
We are hopeful that works will be completed throughout Friday 3 and Monday 6 as it will significantly minimise impact on school procedures.
PLEASE NOTE: The closure of the MC Bay Tce gate will impact the school in the following ways:
· No person will be able to access the MC Campus via this gate after 8:30am Friday 3 May until the works are completed.
· Students will not exit the school via the usual MC Bay Tce gate at the end of the day (Friday 3 May).
· Students from MC Campus who usually get picked up from outside the Bay Tce fence/gate, can still be collected from this area. A staff member will walk the students to the traffic lights area after school on Friday.
· Students from MC Campus who usually cross at the traffic lights to access GA Campus, can still do this. A staff member will walk the students to the traffic lights area where a teacher will be on duty as usual.
· Students from GA Campus who usually cross at the traffic lights to access MC Pick Up Zone can still do this. A staff member will meet them on the MC side of Bay Tce and walk them to the MC Pick Up Zone.
· Both MC and GA Pick Up Zones will operate as usual.
· A teacher will be on supervision duty at the traffic lights as usual.
Dear parents, please inform anyone who may be picking students up from school (grandparents etc) of the changes to these arrangements on Friday 3 May for students exiting the school through the MC Bay Tce gate.
DANCE SUPERSTARS (Prep-Year 2)
Don’t forget to pop this very important date into your diaries … Friday 14 June @ 2:15pm. Our littlest angels in Prep – Year 2 started their dance lessons last week. On Friday 14 June we will enjoy the Superstars Dance Extravaganza (that’s what I call it). This is one of my most favourite days of the whole year … Hopefully you will be able to join us on June 14 in the Shed to witness our little dancing kings and queens.
LIFE EDUCATION
We are so excited to welcome our friends from Life Education back to Guardian Angels from Monday 29 April. They will be here with us until Tuesday 7 May. Throughout this time, each class will enjoy one lesson with the Life Education team.
Life Education has been working with Queensland students for over 30 years; empowering our wonderful children with knowledge and skills that encourage healthy, safe lives.
In the world around us, these life skills are as important as ever. Through the Life Education programs, the students learn about key influences on health and wellbeing, including nutrition, cyber safety, bullying, substance abuse and use, emotional health and relationships. This is done in an informative, age appropriate and entertaining manner .. and the students really love to ‘chat’ with Harold the Healthy Giraffe.
Allow me to provide you with a snapshot of the Life Education program content for each year level in 2024 for your information:

SCHOOL PHOTOS
Our official school photos day is scheduled for Monday 3 June. Historically school photos have been taken over the course of two days, however they will be taken on the one day this year. I just want to let you all know as I know that some people make appointment plans around the photo day.
There will not be any catchup photo days at school so it would be wonderful to have as many of our beautiful students here as possible.
It is an expectation that all students wear their FULL FORMAL SCHOOL UNIFORM for School Photo day. Of course this includes correct hair ties, shoes and socks. Our Prep students will wear their sports uniform as usual.
The students in 2 Red will have HPE in the afternoon on Monday 3 June. These students must also arrive at school in their full formal school uniform please. Of course you may pack their sports uniforms in their bags if you want them to change for their sport lesson in the afternoon. This is optional. The students can certainly participate in their sports lesson in their day uniform as a one off. I will schedule these Year 2 students early in the day, allowing time for them to change into their sports uniform if you feel that is necessary.
I will provide ordering details in the coming weeks.
Blessings to you all for the coming weeks

Season of Easter
As the Easter Season continues, let us remember the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for us.

ANZAC Day March
As a school community, we acknowledge those who died at the rising of the sun in Gallipoli on April 25th 1915, we also take the time to remember all the service men and women who have served our country and continue to protect us. For them, we say THANK YOU!
Thank you to all our families who joined us at the ANZAC Day March. Also, thank you to our Year 6 Service Committee Leaders and special guest Mr Jeff Howard who led our ANZAC Day Liturgy.

Lest We Forget
Mother’s Day

As we enter the month of May we remember the significance of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. In the Catholic tradition, May is dedicated to Mary. Many of our classes are looking at various prayers that are devoted to Mary, including the Hail Mary and the Magnificat. On the 24th May, we celebrate the feast of Mary, Help of Christians. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is the patron saint of Australia; not to be confused with St Mary of the Cross Mackillop, who is Australia’s first saint.
We would like to extend an invitation to our community to learn about and celebrate Mary in the month of May. Our parent formation session details are below and we look forward to seeing you.

It is timely, that while Jesus’ mother is celebrated in May, we celebrate our own mothers and special women in our lives. We would like to wish all the Mother’s in our community a very happy Mother’s Day and invite you to join us in prayer, for all Mother’s.

We thank you, O Lord, for the gift of Motherhood.
May those blessed with children be granted the gifts of courage,
perseverance and good health.
May they face each new day with faith and hope in your abiding love.
May all families find in the strength of your love.
The priceless gift of peace.
And so bear witness to your glory.
Amen
Whether you are a mother or a grandmother, aunt or god mother, we wish you the most wonderful of days.

From the Primary Learning Leader
MMA (Measure Monitor Act)
During the week our staff have participated in their first MMA session for Term 2. During these sessions our teachers came together as a year level to engage in professional dialogue around our reading data and our learners.
From these rich discussions and observing the data, our teachers have established their strategic teaching responses that will be implemented in their BOOST – Guided Reading Sessions for the next 5 weeks.
During this time, to help support daily guided reading practices and targeted support, a member of our leadership will also be coming into classrooms to work with Guided Reading Groups.
Our students are at the core of everything we do, therefore all our teachers work very hard to embed quality teaching practices into their Guided Reading Sessions to support all their learners.
