From the Principal
As we prepare to celebrate Mother’s Day this coming Sunday, we are drawn to reflect on motherhood and its meaning.
As Catholics, we honour Mary as the “Mother of the Lord”, the woman singularly chosen by God to be called “mother” by Jesus. The life and mission of the Mother of the Lord is a model for all who want to follow her Son, Jesus. Mary shows us the pattern of love surrendered to Love. The Prayer of Mary is more about being than doing. It is about surrendered love to God.
We often gather and pray the Hail Mary as a community, with the words a reminder that Jesus called Mary “Mother”.
He entrusted her, as one of his last and greatest gifts to his beloved disciple, and to the entire Church, with these tender words of entrustment in the Gospel of John:
“When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.” (John 19:26, 27).
Jesus offered the life of Mary as a model for all Christians. He encouraged all those present to follow her way of simplicity, humility and obedience. We find great inspiration from this woman of great faith who inspired many through her ‘yes’.
The Marian Charism is a daily reminder to us that Mary, as the Mother of Jesus, has a special relationship with her Son Jesus; as we have a special relationship with our mothers.
This Sunday, we will each take the time to celebrate the gift of our mothers.
We pray for all our mothers and special women who make such a difference to our lives.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen
Happy Mother’s Day!
Spotlight on Learning
Find the angles!
Year 5 and 6 have been engaging in lessons around measuring angles. They came into class this morning to find the desk all taped up.
Year 5 students named the angle and used their protractors to measure the angle.
Year 6 identified the angles, measured the angles and used their knowledge of complementary and supplementary angles to find unknown angles.
We LOVE LEARNING angles in year 5/6.
Last week, Prep students listed the ingredients for their own Wombat Stew and had fun making it with their buddies. "Wombat stew, Wombat stew, Gooey, Brewy, Yummy, Chewy, Wombat stew!" We think the big buddies had just as much fun!
