From the Principal
As we move towards the end of a wonderful Term 2, I can’t think of any better way than with the Celebration of Learning and ‘Name that Tune’ activities. On occasions like these, the spirit of Guardian Angels shines through and provides great joy for all in our community. It was heart-warming to see our students, parents and staff having the opportunity to participate in such fantastic opportunities, to celebrate as a learning community striving to LIVE the GA Way in all that we do.
Playground Reimagining Project (MC Bay Terrace and Chestnut Street): Update
The playground project is progressing, and we are on track to be back in our revitalised area for the commencement of Term 3. The students have been watching the construction with great excitement. We can now see the playground facilities, viewing deck, hedging and signage taking shape.
Information for all Parents : Parent and Friend’s Charter Model
Special General Meeting: Monday 17 June 2024
In last week’s newsletter, I shared information with our parent community around the recommendation that all BCE P&F’s transition to a P&F Advisory Group model (as the formal structure, within BCE schools).
This decision to transition to this model is one made by the P&F, and I extend thanks to the P&F for the spirit in which they’ve engaged in information sharing, discernment and discussion, as an Executive and also at the General Meeting held on Tuesday, 11 June 2024.
As we move towards decision-making, a reminder that all members of the P&F are invited to participate in the decision-making process.
As a member of the P&F, you are invited to attend a Special General Meeting on Monday 17 June 2024.
- Details around this meeting are outlined in the P&F news further in this newsletter. Along with the current and proposed constitution for your review and information prior to the meeting.
I look forward to continuing the wonderful partnership with the P&F Executive and parent community around the P&F Charter Model.

PREP – YEAR 2 DANCE CONCERT
Good afternoon dear parents,
It's DANCE CONCERT time!! Who is excited? (that would be me)
This Friday 14 June (tomorrow), our littlest angels (students in Prep - Year 2) will showcase their groovy dance moves in the Superstars Dance Concert.
Our students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 have been grooving and dancing with our friends from SUPERSTARS every Friday throughout Term Two. They are ready to show you their amazing talents in one of the most joyous and fun-filled school events of the whole year. Our families and friends are invited to join with us on Friday afternoon to share in this great celebration of their learning. Please find the details below:
When: Friday 14 June 2024
Where: MC Shed
Time: 2:15pm
School Entry: Pine Street gate (closest to the tuckshop)
What to bring: chairs/seating The green tiered seating (running sideways down the shed) is also available for your convenience.
Dear parents, please take a moment to read and be familiar with the following important information in preparation for our wonderful dance concert on Friday:
- Every family has its own story/ways of working. At times, part of this story is reflected in the choices our parents make as advocates for their beloved children. This is particularly relevant in the choices our parents make regarding privacy and consent. Please do not video or photograph the performances on Friday. While I understand this is very difficult; especially when not all family members are able to be present, it is of utmost importance that we all respect every parents' right to make choices they deem appropriate and important for their child/ren. I would be most grateful if you could inform all family members who attend the concert of this very important requirement.
- All students will return to their classrooms at the conclusion of the dance concert to finish their school day with end-of-day processes/procedures. I have tried to time the concert appropriately (start time 2:15pm) so that it should finish quite close to 3:00pm. This should allow time for our students to return to their classrooms, engage in the end-of-day procedures, collect their bags and make their way to their collection points eg Pick Up Zone, shade sails in GA playground. We respectfully ask that, without valid reason, parents do not seek to have their child/ren signed out through the office/s at the conclusion of the concert. This can cause undue chaos as appropriate safety protocols are always followed as per our responsibility to your child. I am hopeful that, by adjusting the start time slightly, the concert should finish close to 3:00pm, ensuring our dear parents will not have too long to wait for their child/ren to finish the school day. Ultimately this will also ensure that each one of our students is safely and soundly accounted for at all times.
I know we are going to have a most wonderful afternoon with our students and I look forward to sharing this with you if you are able to join us on Friday.
Prep – Year 6 Athletics Carnival
We are very excited and looking forward to the Prep-Year 6 Athletics Carnival which is scheduled to be held next Wednesday 19 June at Iona College.
We are so blessed so have wonderful staff who have been working tirelessly in the background to prepare for this wonderful whole school event.
Please be sure to be familiar with all email correspondence and the most recent Parent Slip sent to you regarding the Athletics Carnival. For your convenience I will repeat some of the more important information provided by our HPE teacher, Mrs Melanie Denmead.
- All students are to begin the school AT SCHOOL, AT THE NORMAL SCHOOL TIME (8:25 am).
- No student is to be dropped or transported directly to the carnival venue.
- All students will be transported to and from the carnival by school-booked buses. (as per a normal excursion).
- There will be NO TUCKSHOP facility available for Wednesday 19 June (or Thursday 20 & Friday 21 June).
- Students in Years 3-6 will begin their transportation from school to Iona immediately following the bell and classroom roll marking requirements.
- Students in Prep – Year 2 will remain at school for the duration of the morning session. They will eat some of their lunch at school and transportation from school to Iona (via bus) will commence around 11:00am.
- Parents are not required to assist with the transportation of students either to or from the venue and are most welcome to join us at Iona for commencement of the carnival at around 9:00am.
- Parent volunteer helpers are still needed for various jobs throughout the day. Please refer to Parent Slip sent from Melanie Denmead to indicate if you are able to kindly help with jobs/duties throughout the day. We are always most grateful for our wonderful parent helpers.
- All students are expected to return to school via school-booked bus at the conclusion of the carnival to engage in the end-of-day procedures. They will be dismissed from school as usual at the 3:00pm bell.
- All Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zones will be running as normal at school on both campuses. Students can make their way to the pick up zone as required at the conclusion of the school day.
- Students should bring plenty of food, water and sunscreen.
- There will be no canteen running at the carnival, however there will be a coffee van for our parents’ convenience.
- Students are to wear the appropriate school sports uniform however they are permitted to wear a coloured t-shirt reflective of their house (blue, green or yellow).
- Students must have lots of fun throughout the day (that’s just an added little bit from me).
School Photos
School photos were taken on Monday 3 June. As always, the photographers commented on the respectful behaviour of the students and we are very proud of them.
Parents, you have until Friday 21 June (last day of Term Two) to place your orders through Studio Kirby. Each student should have taken home an ordering form, along with the options available for photos. Please find these attached here for your reference.
Parents of Year Six students … a special ‘Year Six’ photo was taken on Monday. This will eventually become available to you for purchase if you require one. This ordering process will sit separately from the school photo online ordering. Studio Kirby will provide an ordering link following the proofing process. As soon as the school receives that link, it will be forwarded to the parents of Year Six students. Again, you will have until Friday 21 June to place your orders.
I will be accessing more of my long service leave in the first four weeks of Term Three, so this is the last you will hear from me (in the newsletter) until Week 5 next term.
May I extend to you all my blessings for the coming week, as well as a wonderfully safe and happy school holiday period with your blessed family.

From the Assistant Principal Religious Education
As we come to the end of the term, we reflect on everything that we have achieved over the last 6 months. It is hard to believe that we are already half way through the school year. What a fantastic first semester we have had at Guardian Angels’. We thank God for everything we have had experienced.
NAIDOC Week
Held across the country from 7-14 July 2024, NAIDOC Week will celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, is Keep the Fire Burning! Black, Loud & Proud.
The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We will be acknowledging this week in Week 1 of Term 3, with a whole school Liturgy on Thursday 11th July, at 9am. We will gather as a whole school community at 9am, for a whole school liturgy in the shed to mark NAIDOC Week. After the liturgy, classes will join with a buddy class to complete activities to acknowledge this week.

From the Primary Learning Leader
Last Thursday we welcomed parents/care givers into our classrooms to showcase the wonderful work that has been taking place this term. I know our students were very proud and excited to share their learning with you. If you were unable to make it to our Celebration of Learning, please be rest assured that we will have another open classroom opportunity in term 3 & 4.
Gallery Walk
At this week’s staff meeting our teachers attended our Termly Gallery Walk. The purpose of our Gallery Walk is for teachers to visit each other’s learning spaces and to share and celebrate the wonderful work happening in classrooms. It gives our staff an opportunity to engage in professional dialogue around our agreed ‘look fors’ in practice.
Our Agreed ‘Look Fors’ include:
- Dedicated spaces for reading and writing
- Our Learning Loop
- Learning Intentions & Success Criteria unpacked for students
- Differentiated success criteria (to cater for all learning needs)
- Feedback
- Third Teacher – Learning Walls including ‘Bump It Up’ walls/ Word Walls/Anchor Charts/Exemplars.
Participating in a Gallery Walk is not only a valuable opportunity for teachers to share ideas and gather feedback from their colleagues, but also ensures consistency in our practices across all our learning spaces.
