Enjoying the New Playground at GA
The new MC Campus playground is open for use from today!
It has been wonderful to see the students trying out different elements of the design and discovering how they can use the structure imaginatively.
Each class has been invited to use the playground from today, Thursday, with timetabled play sessions extending into Friday. This gives each class an opportunity to play and explore the new equipment, and enjoy time with peers, as we transition to this area being a part of regular play routines.
We have a staged opening, to enable the students to enjoy the new play structure, viewing deck and grass graphics, with the new turfed areas needing a little time to grow. The area along the Chestnut St Fenceline will be open for full use once the turf has had some time to settle. However, as this fence line area has been designed as an intentional ‘quiet’ area, class teachers are able to access the space with students for in class activities. The aim is to enable use while minimising the impact of high volumes of foot traffic on the turf from regular play, enabling the grass every opportunity to grow. For this reason, the temporary fencing will remain in place for the next 3-4 weeks, until the area is reviewed by the landscaper.
The ‘Reimagining Project of the MC Campus Play Facilities’ has been a wonderful addition to the school’s outdoor spaces. Thanks to the P&F for their support and generous financial contribution towards the project.
The sheer delight from the students today as they enjoyed the playground should make you all so very proud of the spirit of community that enabled this project to come to life.
"I love the vast variety of things to do, and how each one is its own adventure." Daisy 5/6 Green
"There's more equipment. More diversity. I really like the swing." Nicholas 5/6 Blue
"I love the vibrant colours, and the way you can play with your friends and not get bored." Rooni 5/6 Green
"I love the swing. Everyone wants to go on it because you can share it with your friends." Ally 5/6 Blue
"I liked the big swing the best as it's a bit of a challenge. The monkey bars are good because they are fun." Ollie 5/6 Green
Attendance Matters: Everyday Counts
Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day.
Why it’s important
We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.
If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school.
Attending and participating in school will help your child develop:
- important skills and knowledge to help them learn
- social and emotional skills such as good communication, resilience and teamwork.
Getting in early
- Attendance patterns are established early – a child regularly missing days in kindergarten or in the early years of school will often continue to miss classes in the later years and can impact educational outcomes. It’s vital that students go to school every day – even in the early years of primary school.
What we can do
Avoid holidays during school term: It's vital that holidays are planned during school holidays where possible, and not during the term if it can be avoided.
‘Day off’: Think twice before letting your child have a ‘day off’ school as this can impact attendance habits. Letting your child have a “day off” as they could fall behind their classmates – everyday counts. “
Sickness: There are always times when students need to miss school, such as when they’re ill. It’s vital that they’re only away on the days they are genuinely sick, and setting good sleep patterns, eating well and exercising regularly can make a big difference.
Medical appointments: Make medical appointments before or after school or during the school holidays. If this is not possible, tell your child’s school before the appointment.
Remember, everyday counts.

Parents & Caregivers Special Event
The wellbeing of our students and families is a valued focus of our school community. To support this, we have a wonderful opportunity for our families to attend a parent presentation by Justin Coulson to support the Mental Health and Wellbeing of our children.
Justin is the co-host and parenting expert on Channel 9's Parental Guidance, the founder of happyfamilies.com.au, and one of Australia’s most trusted parenting experts. He holds a PhD in Positive Psychology.
Over the past decade he has helped innumerable families with his 9 books about raising children, his hundreds of media appearances (including all of Australia’s major news outlets, and even the Washington Post and the New York Times), and two viral videos that have been viewed a combined 80 million times!
The presentation will focus on Resilience - Developing strength, calm and kindness in our kids. In this session, parents will learn the psychological secrets that build their child’s sense of identity, strengths, and growth mindset in order to perform better, be happier, and build resilience. Based on Dr Justin Coulson’s best-selling book 9 Ways to a Resilient Child, this session shows parents how to help their children cope powerfully and positively with the challenges that life throws at them. This presentation is one of Justin’s most popular ones with powerful stories and illustrations that every parent can relate to. He explains the factors that help and hinder resilience, why common advice such as "toughen up Princess" just doesn't work, and how competition and praise may undermine resilience.
