Guardian Angels’ School Partnership Review (23rd August 2024)
In the coming weeks, we will have the opportunity to welcome an expert review team to our school to facilitate our School Partnership Review. This review is part of our Brisbane Catholic Education (BCE) system priorities and is guided by the School Improvement Tool (NSIT). This tool enables reflection and review on our efforts to continuously improve learning and teaching, wellbeing and engagement, in our school. During this review process, we will be able to reflect on ‘what is working well’ and share in our school’s achievements and successes. Additionally, we will be able to consider the areas that we want to build on and those that we are still working towards and identify some considerations for future planning.
There are many highlights during the school day, and one that is present in our school is a genuine sense of enjoyment and engagement in learning and teaching from our staff and students across our learning areas. We’ve had such a great start to the term, and this sets the foundation for a momentum for deep learning and teaching throughout the weeks ahead.
There are so many aspects that make our school great and we see them happening in our classrooms each day; in the commitment that our staff have to our students, in the effort that our students put into their learning, in the care shown by staff, parents and students towards one another, during participation at masses and liturgies, prayer assemblies and other school events, at sporting activities, and in the day to day as we strive to LIVE the GA way, and so much more.
Engaging in the School Partnership Review Process, supports our continued efforts to build our young people into strong confident learners who want to make a difference and who believe that great things are possible for them. In addition, it is through these activities that we witness Gospel values that are at the heart of our school and are what we are all about.
As we move into the busyness of term, thank you to our families for the many ways that you support our school with expectations that guide your children to develop strategies that support positive behaviour, learning engagement and wellbeing.
I look forward to sharing further information around our School Partnership Review in the coming weeks.
Celebrating Grandparents’ Day and Catholic Education Week at GA
Each year, as we celebrate Catholic Education Week, we highlight the Gospel values that are at the heart of all Catholic Schools. As we gathered as a faith community for liturgy this morning, we had a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what it means to me a part of Catholic Education. Having our Grandparents and extended friends and families join as part of this liturgy, made this a truly special morning.
This morning we welcomed our grandparents and other special people to celebrate Grandparents’ Day. It is wonderful to see so many gather with us for this special celebration.
At Guardian Angels, Grandparents’ Day is very special to us as it gives us an opportunity to showcase the school that we are so proud of as we share all the great things we do each and every day.
Today, we honoured and celebrated all Grandparents and special people for the important role that each plays in the lives of the students in our school. There are many simple moments that create the special memories that can often become the greatest of treasured times.
Thank you to our Grandparents, families and friends for joining us today and for making memories with us, and reminding us of all the little things that we learn from you.
When you thought I wasn’t looking
When you thought I wasn’t looking
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
And I immediately wanted to paint another one.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make my favourite cake for me,
And I learned that the little things in life, can be the special things in life
When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
And I knew there was a God that I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick
And I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.
When you thought I wasn’t looking,
I saw you take care of your house and everyone in it
And I learned we have to take care of what we are given.
When you thought I wasn’t looking
I saw that you cared and just how much you loved me
And I learned to want to be all that I could be
When you thought I wasn’t looking
I learned most of life’s lessons that I will need to know to be a good and special person, just like you.
When you thought I wasn’t looking
I looked at you, and remembered to say,
Thanks for all the things that I saw, when you thought I wasn’t looking.

Parent Teacher Interviews – Term 3
In the second last week of this term (Week 9), we will again be offering formal Parent Teacher Interview opportunities. These interviews are wonderful opportunities for parents to catch up with their child/ren’s teacher/s and celebrate the students’ successes and achievements. It is also allows for important discussion regarding ways that we, as a team, can support our students in areas of strength, challenge and with relationships with others.
The interviews will be held Monday 4 – Friday 8 September. Parent Teacher Interviews are easily booked through the PTO (Parent Teacher Online) link in the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal will open to parents on Monday 19 August. You will have until Wednesday 28 August to book an interview time. Relevant information to support the interviews will be communicated through subsequent newsletters.
Uniforms
Thank you to our parents who are working so hard to ensure their child/ren are wearing the correct uniform to school. Wearing a uniform appropriately allows us to show pride in our school community and supports the sense of belonging to this beautiful school family. It is really important that our students are wearing their uniforms correctly. This means that they are wearing the correct uniform on the correct day, including all aspects of the uniform. Uniforms should also be in good condition. I have been noticing a number of students who are wearing the incorrect shoes with certain uniforms. Students in Years 1-6 may not wear their sports shoes (sandshoes) with their formal day uniform. Sports shoes are only to be worn with the sports uniforms. Each class would be aware of the day/s to wear sports uniforms, as communicated by the classroom teachers. All other days, the formal school uniform should be correctly worn in its entirety. Thank you for supporting our efforts to represent our school appropriately and respectfully.
Dance Concert Years 3-6
The Superstars dancing lessons have begun for our students in Year 3-6. Every Friday until 8 September (Week 9) our students will enjoy a specialised dance lesson with our friends from Superstars. This culminates with a wonderful dance concert.
We warmly invite our parents and families to join us for this concert so be sure save the date in your diary. Friday 6 September at 2:15pm in the MC Shed. More information and reminders about this event will be provided as it draws closer. This one is not to be missed!

We look forward to this special day each and every year. Our Grandparents are a very special part of our life at it was wonderful to spend the morning with them. Today we also held in our hearts those Grandparents who could not be with us today.
Grandparents’ Prayer:
Dear God,
Please bless our grandparents. Thank you for the life they gave our parents and for the life they gave to us. For the ways they help us and make us strong, we give thanks. For the ways they have paved the road that leads us here, we are grateful. Let them grow in wisdom and joy in life. Let them find peace and rest from their work. Let them be healed of every sickness and pain. And let them see with their own eyes the glory of you son, Jesus, in the love of their children and grandchildren. Bless them always.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
Catholic Education Week
This week is Catholic Education Week, it is celebrated annually in week 3 of term 3. Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all 313 Catholic schools in Queensland to celebrate and promote their distinctive mission and ethos.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.
This year’s theme is COMMUNITIES OF FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE.
From the Primary Learning Leader
During the week our staff have participated in their first MMA (Measure Monitor Act) session for Term 3. During these sessions our teachers came together as a year level to engage in professional dialogue around our reading and writing data and our learners. From these rich discussions and observing the data, our teachers have established their strategic teaching responses that will be implemented in their BOOST – Guided Reading Sessions for the next 5 weeks. During this time, to help support daily guided reading practices and targeted support, a member of our leadership will also be coming into classrooms to work with Guided Reading Groups. Our students are at the core of everything we do, therefore all our teachers work very hard to embed quality teaching practices into their Guided Reading Sessions to support all their learners.
NAPLAN
Today our year 3 and 5 parents will receive their child’s NAPLAN report. The NAPLAN reporting uses four proficiency levels of achievement.
- Exceeding - The student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong - The student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing - The student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support - The student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
Further information about Proficiency Standards can be found at
https://nap.edu.au/docs/default-sources/naplanisr-parent-carer-faq.pdf
At Guardian Angels’ NAPLAN is one of many diagnostic tools used to provide additional information about student progress to help inform our teaching and learning. The measures are indicators used to assist us in tailoring the learning journeys of students and provide parents with information on their child’s learning progression.
